Well, sound out Hayseed Dixie's band name very carefully.

Surprised you didn't post a link to this song (I did expect Ace Of Spades, though): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbpFkiYeNKk
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

You know that futuristic 80's image you had floating around in your head that never quite came to fruition? Neon lights, palm trees, sunsets, everyone drives a DeLorean, lasers everywhere, cheesy action/horror movies, wanton abuse of the common synthesizer, even the coke is on coke?

Turns out that's A Thing, it's called synthwave, and it has spawned some pretty badass music.

I give you Perturbator as a starting point.

THE Ur-Synthwave track, from 1973. This is a great genre because it was music which inspired movies which inspired an aesthetic which then inspired... music.

That's probably how culture always grows. Orgiastic appropriation.

The nudniks today code to this. It is way too uptempo and intrusive to me. Might as well try to work at Tech Noir.

I don't really think that much of the metal covers TBH. They're easy and they hide their great distinction which is their amazing ability on instrument. There are a trillion hillbilly/metal hillbilly/punk parody/cover bands going all the way back to the 70's/80's psychobilly * genre, but these guys actually know what they're doing. That's why I concentrated on the melodic pieces, which are way more than a joke.

              * Nothing against The Cramps et al., BTW. They are the Fountainhead.

I stole that from a Christian hymn called "In Christ Alone." The full line is "no guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me."

                              Bit of context there.
