Sorry UAH guys. The Chargers will definitely be missed ... and well beyond next year. I remember some interesting UAH-RIT games over these many years (some good ... some just interesting!) Take care.

I agree it sucks, I wish they could have made things work, but a moment of silence? Doesn't that kinda diminish the moment for moments of silence for people who've died instead of kids who now can either no longer play hockey at their school or have to transfer schools?

The death of southern NCAA hockey isn't worth a moment?

Perhaps pep bands could play "Sweet Home Alabama"....

May not want to play that next season, if these kids transfer to other schools. Could open back up the wounds.

I disagree, I think that's perfect. I was in my second week of college when 9/11 happened. That day as I was walking back to my dorm I heard a song being played, SCSU will play tunes of songs from a tower, we'd call it "The Bells." The song that was playing was "New York, New York." I thought that was such a ray of sunshine in an otherwise horrid day, and if it wasn't "too much" for then, I don't see why it'd be "too much" for this.

Its worth something, but I don't like the word "death" thrown around easily. Fact is as much as this sucks, everyone will wake up tomorrow from the situation alive. Even Morris.

It would be like getting dumped by your fiancée and then ending up in a ballroom with every girl you've ever dated or even crushed on.
Believe me when I say I know exactly how you feel. After Notre Dame dumped their program, I refused to have anything to do with Notre Dame, openly rooting against them, or anything hockey. I went away to college (Michigan State, no less, when they won their 2nd NC), but still refused to give hockey a chance. Then by my senior year, I wondered about college hockey, entered the lottery for student tickets and got my notification. I did not get a ticket, but I opened the door to my first love. After graduating, I started going to Notre Dame's D1-independent games and got hooked hard again, and am glad I was open to reigniting that flame.

I'm not saying anything like Notre Dame's good fortune will befall UAH, but take some time to grieve your sport and when you're ready to root again, you will.

He was downright interested until we came to the use of sticks, and then he threw up his hands. He said, 'No, that game is not for our University. Notre Dame will never endorse any game that puts a club in the hands of an Irishman.' " -- Knute Rockne: All American

As a Colgate alum and huge fan let me express my sincerest condolences for this recent decision...my guess (from experience) is that administrative cowardice is a major contributing factor...a great program, started by a Michigan legend, goes to "club" status...why??? I even hate to ask...all of the fans of UA-Huntsville hockey deserve a lot better...

So sorry to hear this. It seems unnecessary and petty. Good people. Good memories of Huntsville.

I'll just cut and paste my thought from the Save UAH Hockey! Facebook group...

This is an awful day for college hockey. This Spartan sends his absolute best wishes to the UAH fanbase and former Spartan hockey players Chris Luongo and Danton Cole. Lots of MSU connections with UAH. Actually, in general, lots of Ron Mason connections with UAH.

Doug Ross was a fantastic coach and one of college hockey's best ambassadors. It's extremely unfortunate that his 25 years of hard work must end like this.

And I'll add this: The UAH SIDs are some of the easiest people to work with ever. I did play-by-play for a UAH v. MSU game last year, and they were extremely nice folks.

You say "Death of southern NCAA hockey" as if there was some grand tradition of southern NCAA hockey that has been slowly dying out, and UAH was the last vestige of it.

I don't recall very many moments of silence for Iona or Fairfield.

Trivino has never been one of those players. Even outside of the rink, he'll say hi and is plenty of friendly, but has never been even close to saying or doing anything inappropriate.

From my guestimation, where UAH comes into it is if the WCHA goes beyond 12. But if the membership stays at 12 (or under), that's a much more difficult situation for UAH.
That's from Bruce McLeod. I don't know how much UAH wanted to do, but there's not much they actually could have done when they were lower on the priority list than a Buffalo team that may or may not ever exist.
