  • The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

As some of you may or may not know, I have been working, researching and compiling information to put into a formula that I have been working on for the past two years. My goal was to create a formula that could rank our college hockey programs as impartially as possible. After creating the formula, I spent a great deal of time going through every media guide I could get my hands on to compile the information necessary to plug into my formula. I have finished my research, and over the next few days, I will be unveiling the top programs according to this formula.

    Stay tuned...#58 is coming shortly.

American International is one of 8 programs that have yet to reach the NCAA Tournament. The Yellow Jackets have not tested themselves much either, playing only 4 games against programs that have won an NCAA Championship, going 0-3-1. Perhaps if they play a more difficult schedule, generate some victories and make a trip to the NCAA Tournament, they could move up on the list. As for now...they are at the bottom.

AIC may want to be tested, but anyone with championship aspirations would not bother scheduling them since they don't help.

Perhaps AIC can mount a winning campaign, perhaps even make an NCAA Tournament, and get some momentum around their program. If you have a winning program, they won't have issues with scheduling quality opposition.

AIC is playing no one this year who has ever won an NCAA Championship. Throughout history, they have played RPI alone more than 20 times (and even won once). Are you saying that AIC has an 0-3-1 record against NCAA champions in the years that those schools won or something else?

Were some of the games when AIC was a d-2 school?

EDIT: I didn't count anything before 1998-1999 for AIC. I was getting them confused with another school for a moment.

Double edit: The 0-3-1 record I had was against programs that had won titles, not necessarily in the years that the title was won.

That's probably why. AIC was the most difficult of any school, as I could not find a media guide for them online, and didn't have a hard copy on hand. I had to rely on what they had on their website, and USCHO's records. The furthest any of that went back was '98 when they were first in a D-1 Conference. That is how I got the 0-3-1 record for AIC.

Canisius College is the 2nd of 8 teams that have never been to the NCAA Tournament. They have been steadily improving in their conference, putting up a +.500 season for the first time since joining Atlantic Hockey last year, so perhaps they are on the rise.

It'll definitely get more interesting when we get to the top 20 or so.

The last I remember was CAH doing it about 6 years or so ago. And, iirc, they didn't use a formula, just what they thought it should be.
