Interesting article in the WSJ about college hockey, focusing on the 'Big Freeze'. Case of some of the main stream media coming to the party.

Interesting quote: "Michigan expects its hockey program to bring in more ticket revenue than basketball this season by a margin of more than $1 million."

Reading your thread randomly and this quote struck me as interesting. I wonder if that includes the 109,000 tickets they sold for the Big Chill. Little bit more revenue than the 6,600 tickets they would normally sell. I wonder if that is a normal figure.

              I would think so.

Will be nice to get CJ back in the lineup. Glad they are taking it slow with Malchuk and OGrady. In the scheme of things, this game is not as important as the remainder of the season and we need to get both Joel and Marty back fully healthy for the long haul. I can just imagine how much JFK is chomping on the bit to get back in and hit somebody and it should not be much longer.

With the recent string of head injuries going around, I wonder if RPI has any plans to start using those specialized helmets to help prevent these type of injuries. Something similar to the M11's that Harvard has been using the past couple years. I know that RPI uses Warrior equipment now but im not sure if the current helmets the team is wearing are made by Warrior or not. Might be something to look into in the near future.

Excellent point-in all the years of following the team I cannot recall 3 concussions at the same time.

We've been having a lot of difficulties staying healthy. Last year there was Bergin, Lee, also D'Amigo was getting a bit banged up. Obviously both Bergin and Malchuk had to go through redshirt years, there were some injuries come playoff time in 2008-09 that I was stunned they gutted through.

Paul Stewart does not get it. He is putting Hicks in a tough spot. My problem with the ECAC is that they never learn from mistakes. They should not put Hicks in that position. BTW- Nice reporting by Mr. Schott.

It's not that they don't learn from their mistakes, it's two things: One, there are only so many refs in the rotation, and it might seem a little weird to have the same couple of refs do the same location night in and night out, so you're going to have to have them in the rotation sooner or later. Two, there has to be some assumption that enough time has gone by so that the fans have forgotten. We haven't forgotten, though, and there may be some underestimation on the hostility of the crowd (like how Hansen needed a public safety escort after the "missed goal" in Fridgen's last regular season game with RPI).

I'm not advocating hostility at all, but with some of the crowds we have at HFH, you may start wondering...

On the bright side, because the game is being broadcast on NHL Network, there will presumably be the opportunity for video review for any goal/no-goal situations that might arise.
