Re: All Things Denver XXIX
Sounds better than anyone would have ever thought possible. Man, when it happened I truly thought he was gone, I called my mom and said to her, "I think a DU player just got killed...".
I still don't agree with the punishment handed down to Malone and believe that he should have had at least 2 games. The way I see it is you can drop your gloves with the *intention* of fighting (and not even actually fight) and receive the exact same punishment Malone received (rest of the game, plus the next) without ever even actually laying a hand on your opponent.
Also, does anyone remember the WCHA handing down a 2 game suspension (reduced to 1 on appeal) on Max Bull his senior season? He was never even called for a major at all that season and the WCHA claimed it was a "buildup of his actions throughout the season", which basically meant that they decided to punish him for a knee-to-knee hit on UAA's Jesse Unklesbay which supposedly broke his leg. So, in the WCHA, you can break a guy's leg and get an initial 2 game suspension but break a guy's neck, nearly killing him, and get just 1 game? Outta whack, if you ask me...
