You know... if there is a god...can you not cut this family some slack..
Agreed. Reminds me a lot of the Dan Jansen saga from about 25 years ago.

Statement by the family (From Ciskie)

Mandi's most recent bone marrow showed 54% leukemia blasts in her bone marrow treatment protocol we hoped to continue in Sask. will not continue. We ask for support in prayers as we treasure our time with her at home.

Will have link when it becomes available.

Thought of her yesterday when I saw her brother getting his metal at the Juniors.

Still no link, but Sports Illustrated included this in their wrap-up of the WJC:

                  A moving display
In a show of support for their extended family, Canada's players wrote the name Mandi on their sticks before the game. Mandi Schwartz, the sister of Team Canada forward Jaden Schwartz, is battling cancer. Jason got knocked out of the tournament on Tuesday, when he suffered a broken ankle during an awkward collision in the game against the Czech Republic. In obvious discomfort, Schwartz at first didn't realize the severity of his injury and actually returned to score a goal a few shifts later.

                      Here's the story.

Yale hockey player Mandi Schwartz was diagnosed with leukemia 25 months ago, at the end of the first semester of her junior year. She has spent most of her life since then waging a brave fight against the disease, and becoming the centerpiece of an outpouring that has stretched from New Haven to her home in Wilcox, Saskatchewan and resulted in nearly 5,000 people joining bone-marrow registries in the U.S. and Canada.

Everybody hoped for a happy ending to the hideous ordeal, but that seems less likely by the day, Schwartz' leukemia returning late last month and continuing to rampage through her body even as she underwent yet another round of chemotherapy. Her most recent bone marrow test shows there are 54% leukemia blasts in her bone marrow.

The family has stopped the chemo now. Schwartz is at home in Saskatchewan.

Scarcely four months after she underwent a stem-cell transplant at a Seattle hospital that seemed to promise fresh hope, Mandi Schwartz, who has had three relapses in less than a year, seems to be out of options, and almost out of time.

More news and a photo in a Canadian newspaper about Mandi's brother returning Thursday from the world juniors and being met at the airport by Mandi and her mother. Nothing really "new" except the photo and some quotes from her family and their perspective on things.

The Schwartz family broke down weeping, and typical Mandi, she apologized to her father for not getting better.
Ouch. "Not fair" is an understatement.
