Do home football games help your home hockey attendance?

I have hear both positives and negatives on whether home football games on Saturday afternoons help or hurt hockey game attendance on Saturday night? Or is there no correlation?

If the football game is on a saturday night, they kill saturday night attendance for minnesota...

If the football game is early I don't really notice a difference.

NU hockey outdraws NU football so it's likely a terrible judge. Homecoming is always done on a hockey home weekend and that I guess smally helps with football...

They don't schedule home games for both MN football/hockey on the same day I thought (see: UAA series in hockey).

But except for that fact, I think it's two different crowds that are big enough to support both, given the size of the school.

My mind is on NFL on Sundays, and there are very few things that would distract me (hell, a woman who's a "5" wouldn't distract me, and this is ME we're talking about).

So, in short, I'm off today.

When football, basketball, and hockey are all at home the same weekend, the overlap in parking keeps them from being able to give football its own day.

That is why they schedule the way they do.

But either way, MN football plays at home? Guess they don't consider BSU to be a strong draw (I'd think it'd be better than MSU-M, UAA, the CO schools, etc,).

Football is hosting SDSU. I'd make a joke about it being a powerhouse weekend if Bemidji weren't better than the Gophers right now (which is plenty funny on its own).

And I bet SDSU is favored.

Football? Clarkson doesn't have that sport.

However, as a season ticket holder at Army, I can tell you that home football has absolutely no attendance effect on hockey, despite the fact that the venues are practically connected.

At Miami, a Saturday afternoon football game on the same day as a home ice hockey game simply means that, instead of attending the football game, the students will be down at the Goggin Ice Center standing in line.

I have not noted a correlation with attendence at RPI football vs. hockey, but there seems to be an inverse correlation between performance. RPI's men's hockey team sucks whenever the football team is winning.

It's good to see the football team going down the tubes this season.

Quinnipiac's football team, undefeated since 1929, has no impact on hockey attendance.

On the flip side, the Pike's Peak Hockey Club, the oldest hockey booster group in the country, always runs a bus to either Vermont or Maine for the two game series. We stay at a nice hotel and have a blast.

This year the two game series is in Maine on November 20-21. BC is hosting North Carolina on 11/21. Because of this there is no bus trip this year.

That's awesome. I don't think Clarkson has lost since the '50s.

Re: Do home football games help your home hockey attendance?

At Wisconsin, I don't know if they help or hurt attendance directly. Attendance is always better in the second half of the season, regardless of if the football team is at home or away during the October and November games.

I'd have to look at the numbers, but I don't think it's a huge impact compared to other early-season games.

The atmosphere does suffer a bit, in my humble opinion. That's a long day - all the football and requisite tailgating, plus a hockey game on Saturday night? Yikes. I've done it several times before, and it's exhausting. And that was while I was living close to both the stadium and the arena. I can't imagine trying to do both if you were coming in from outside of town. Also, if you were just coming in for hockey, you have to deal with some post-game travel, etc.
