Re: The oldest, earliest picture of a college hockey player or game????
For sheer continuity of hockey history, it's hard to beat the the Boston Arena (now Matthews Arena), the nation's oldest, continuously operating multipurpose arena, opened in 1910. Nice story and several old pics: https://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/30/s...y/30arena.html
Original home of the Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, New England Whalers (AKA Carolina Hurricanes), and Boston Olympics. Home at one time or another to every college hockey team in Boston and most high school teams in eastern Massachusetts. Original home of the Beanpot Tournament. Now home to the Northeastern Huskies. This building is probably the single biggest reason, with due respect to Bobby Orr, that hockey sunk deep roots in the northeast.Last edited by Split-N; 05-19-2020, 06:32 PM."Through the years, we ever will acclaim........"

Originally posted by Drew S. View PostIt would be cool if they moved the beanpot back there. It's a shame attendance has dropped so much at the garden, but I certainly can't blame people not wanting to spend the money.Last edited by Split-N; 05-20-2020, 10:45 AM."Through the years, we ever will acclaim........"

And from what I can read about it, Calumet is a recreational facility that has the look and feel of the old Boston Skating Club. To my knowledge, none of the UP college teams ever called it home."Through the years, we ever will acclaim........"

Originally posted by Split-N View PostYeah, there was that piddling little fire https://1drv.ms/b/s!AsctSMNJHwhi5dx_...M7tHw?e=0oZVxl that put the original Boston Arena out of commission for a couple of seasons. So I'll amend my post to read oldest continuously operating college hockey arena.
