There really aren't, though. Maybe two or three septuagenarians in academic positions studying Edmund Burke. But all the rest have been exposed.

20 years ago I believed conservatism was an equal and opposite political viewpoint based on different axioms. It isn't -- it's just a signal of deficient brain function that makes people paranoid, irrational, and violent.

I know a couple conservatives that want ZERO association with what the R party has become. They're definitely not liberal, although they agree with some socially liberal ideas. They are right-leaning overall, if one had to put them in a category.

To say that only Rs (or conservatives) are bad, and all Ds (or liberals) are good is just as dangerous, IMO.

But all Rs are bad now, by definition. That train left the station in 2004, returned briefly to pick up new passengers, and then departed again in 2016. It was last seen running smoothly towards book burnings, cross burnings, and body burnings.

"Some good / some bad" is how things are supposed to be. Until fairly recently it is how things were. But to not recognize how things have changed, and that there are literally no good Republicans in the same way there are no good Nazis, now -- that is what's dangerous.

I have neither met nor heard from an American conservative in the last decade. Reactionaries and fascists, sure. But Winston Churchill is not walking through that door. Hell, Robert A. Taft isn't even walking through that door. Instead it's Tucker Carlson and Ben Shapiro. F-ck that noise. American conservatism is extinct.

What is Poland's current political situation? From what I see here in the Chicago area from those that are "fresh off the boat", there are a significant number that are outright racist/sexist/homophobic. The fact that they don't try to hide it leads me to believe that this was an accepted view for them back home. They don't seem to be outright religious like a lot of our friends in the Southern States, but they check most of the other boxes (fear of government control, pro gun, white master race)

To be fair, all of Eastern Europe is backward, homophobic, racist, and misogynistic (I say this as 50% Slavic). The Slavic countries (plus Poland) are Europe's red states. Besides Poland the worst are Russia, Hungary, and Slovakia. Ukraine is a mess but supposedly even the "good guys" there are vicious homophobes and sexists. I've heard Slovenia is bad but who notices?

Basically, that region is living in the early 20th century when it comes to gender and race. They're every bit as stupid and regressive as the RNC.

This reminds me of story a right winger friend of mine in NYC told me. He said even Jamaicans think the Eastern Europeans who have moved into Brooklyn are "too sexist," and a Jamaican will dangle his wife out of a fifth floor window if she complains about his drinking or doesn't have dinner ready.

The Totem Pole of American Stupidity seems to currently have Central Africans, Eastern Europeans, and the perpetual favorite Southerners jockeying for top position.

Arabs suck too but there aren't enough of them to matter. And there are tons of Iranians but they're actually quite civilized.

Maybe travel outside your bubble man. They arent loud and obnoxious but they are there. I personally know 3 who are lifelong GOPers who left the party because of how ridiculous they became on the far right issues. None of them are religious which helps.

California and Illinois got hit hard today with new cases as did Texas. Minnesota with over 800 new ones and 33 deaths. We applaud their great sacrifice to make sure to restart the economy.
