In the future, when we look back on this dark period, we should resist the temptation to focus solely on Trump himself. To do so would be to excuse those who know exactly what he is but pretend they can work to keep him in office and remain unsullied. They cannot, and their moral culpability becomes clearer every day.
IMO this is the money shot of the entire opinion piece. trump has always been, in addition to the most dangerously unfit person ever to occupy the presidency, a symptom of how ill our society really is. We mock the trump supporters and remind ourselves that at least they seem to be a minority of the population (likely true) but at the same time, look at how much chaos and horror that minority has foisted on our nation. We're teetering on the brink as it is, imagine if instead of 35% of the population, they made up 40%. How many unhinged gun nuts for instance would be among the extra 15,000,000 or so people that might represent? How much more misery would those people bring upon us?

trump is clearly an enemy to the well being of this country. But so are the enablers in power who refuse to place checks on him. So are the willfully blind among us who refuse to see. Blame trump all we can, sure, but the ugly, dangerous, sad truth is he is just one of millions.

Well in comparison to April it is...that is a remarkable drop. He didnt kill the Pandemic Bubble he murdered it. I mean even a mediocre President would be 10 points higher than him. Overall though it just shows where his real cap is.

The fact that he cant even make enough smart decisions to have more than just the morons support him is actually quite amazing.

So, the Beltway gossip for the last few months has been that Dump is wearing lifts, not for height (he actually is tall) but to correct his slumping posture. You can see in his photos lately that he appears to have a noticeable list forward.

I didn't think much of it, and just assumed it was one of Dump's "this is how you intimidate" BS things, until this morning.

I realize that, and in addition to the people on the floor there are all those staffers and support staff. It's not trivial, but I don't think it's in the same ballpark (so to speak) as say a playoff series covering the same number of nights.

I don’t know. A playoff series is mostly locals, many of whom might decide to grab a burger and beer before the game. A lot of expense accounts to be tapped at a convention.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

That is true, since all those folks have nowhere to eat, sleep, or f-ck but a hotel.

OK. You have changed my mind. It is a very significant hit to lose it.

Not that this matters in the grand scheme of things, but I hate it when president salute. NO trump is not the first one to do it all the time, maybe it was Reagan. But since then they all seem to do it. You'll notice in that tweet the man in uniform is saluting but the two civilians in the middle (Pense and I don't know who else) are placing their hands over their hearts.

Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Same here. The salute is military and the President is civilian control of the military. It's not a trivial issue.

The RNC originally estimated it wold have a $200 million impact on Cleveland and the surrounding counties in 2016. I think even though the numbers are often inflated a bit to draw as much support as possible, the dollars are real. It was estimated by local researchers to actually have almost $190 million of direct economic benefit to the Cleveland area. Although not finished in time for the convention, it did lead to a sizeable improvement in I-90 through the downtown area of the city. Once that road was opened it shaved anywhere from 10-30 minutes off the morning commute to my office when I worked in Ohio, which was located in Asia town, east of the downtown area.
