Re: Finding old games to watch

The "pause", and "rewind" function were so revolutionary, LOL. But, they gave me the chance to yell again at Fitzgerald or Mcbride for blowing calls. (Hockey East fans will remember those names)

$90(more) for a drink holding ledge and a Maine blanket, but the views still great.

Wes/Wally: I would happily digitize all your old Maine VHS tapes to DVD or YouTube. There are a lot of older games I'd love to get my hands on that I'm sure some of you older gents have.

EDIT: Might as well contribute a couple games to this as well

Thank you. Very interesting. Interesting to see how little hitting there is in these games -- for all the talk about "finishing the checks" being old fashioned hockey, it really is an invention of the late 80s. And its not just guys pulling up on checks, its the idea that hitting is the best way to slow a team so once your guy makes a pass you finish becaus it ties them up for 3 seconds.

There were 7 players from the Miracle on Ice team who played in the 1978 Frozen Four.

It hit the back bar and came out. With modern replay that's a tie game.

Sean, why was Terry Meagher only a three year player?

Re: Finding old games to watch

In the 1974 ECAC playoffs, UNH was seeded #1 and RPI #8. There were 16 teams in the ECAC at the time, so #8 was in the middle of the pack. RPI upset UNH 7-6 in OT on Freshman Rick Smith's second goal of the game, which also was his second of the season. I listened to the game on the radio in Troy, but clearly it was televised by UNH because a short snippet, which would make one think that UNH manhandled RPI, is on line. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUEHAUJsKDE Does anyone know if the entire game is somewhere? The poster doesn't know, and I would be interested in seeing it, as would banished USCHO poster FlagDUDE08 judging by his comment on the video.

While the NCAA allowed freshman to play on varsity teams in all sports but football and basketball beginning in 1968, the ECAC refused to go along. In February 1971 the ECAC reaffirmed freshman couldn't play hockey, but in September 1971 the schools voted to allow freshmen to play. This led to a dispute between those schools that didn't want to allow freshmen (Dartmouth, Harvard and BC among them) and those that were allowing freshman to play (BU, UNH, Army and Colgate among them). However, BU didn't put all freshmen on the varsity roster; instead BU converted their freshman team to a "B" team, which was composed of mostly freshman. So, while Terry Meagher was eligible to play varsity, he was put on the "B" team for his freshman season.

Here is the current list of games on my Google drive:

                          BU Games
1991 Hockey East Championship BU vs Maine

2006 Hockey East Championship BU vs BC
2009 NCAA Semifinal BU vs UVM
2009 NCAA Championship BU vs Miami
2015 Hockey East Semifinal BU vs UNH
2015 Hockey East Championship BU vs UML
2015 NCAA Northeast Regional Semifinal BU vs Yale
2015 NCAA Northeast Regional Final BU vs UMD
2015 NCAA Semifinal BU vs UND
2016 Jan 07 BU at Harvard
2016 Beanpot Semifinal BU vs NU
2017 Frozen Fenway BU vs UMass
2018 Hockey East Semifinal BU vs BC
2018 Hockey East Championship BU vs PC (processing - download only at this time)

                          Bonus Games
1991 ECAC Championship CCT vs SLU (missing last 2 minutes, post-game celebration and awards presentation)
game that shall not be mentioned or it will be removed

That 1991 Hockey East Championship game reminded me why I despised Coach Walsh (I also saw that Coach Gendron did indeed have red hair).

As a bonus I have most of the 1991 ECAC Championship game, but thanks to BU and Maine the tape ran out before the game. I was surprised that I recognized several Clarkson and SLU players, but I did see those teams several times in both 1989-90 and 1990-91. I loved Les Kuntar's reaction to the game-winning goal.

The latest batch of tapes I pulled out included games 2 & 3 of the BU at MSU 1990 NCAA quarterfinal series as well as more HockeyFest '91: both ECAC semifinal games - Clarkson vs Harvard and Cornell vs St. Lawrence.

It all starts with the goaltending.
