I will admit I was kind of surprised when I saw he was transferring considering that BSU was in position to make the NCAA tournament this year and has a lot of those pieces back next year. And it is not like he wasn't seeing ice time for the Beavers. Also, given that fact the Michigan State was sixth in Big 10 made me scratch my head a little. But he is going as a graduate transfer, so maybe it is for a program there that BSU doesn't offer.

Happy Smigus-Dyngus, everyone (and belated Easter).

There is some truth in what you are saying and some misconceptions.

Yes, HIV/AIDS research initially was delayed due to social issues, but all that changes in the late 90's early 2000's. Many viral treatment breakthroughs occurred because of HIV/AIDS research. Before this research, no approved viral treatments existed.

As for the lack of a vaccine, it is the virus of nightmares. (Oversimplification) It attacks and destroys the immune system. How do you re-train the immune system to fight something that evolved to destroy it? The current basis for every other vaccine is to "teach" the immune system what to look for and trick it into a fight. HIV/AIDS bypasses this system entirely and exploits a critical flaw in the defense. To this observer, gene therapy might be the best option.

SARS and MERS were controlled/eradicated before a vaccine could be developed/tested. Any effort that may have been started towards more than likely were stopped or run until the funding/semester/research paper were finished. Eradication is the best solution to any disease.

For Ebola, there might be some underlying truth to your statement, but from a technical standpoint, why develop a vaccine for a problem that occurs in remote, almost inaccessible jungles, is containable, and appears to be eradicated until it comes back years later. I wouldn't be surprised if we dug into the data that by the time researchers heard about an outbreak, mobilized, and arrived onsite, it was gone. It is only in the last 10 years that it has been harder to contain as population/access to the area has increased.

How often do we engineer a solution for an isolated manageable problem? We may keep an eye on it, but react only when it appears to not be isolated or manageable any more. Then you need to look at the ease of vaccinating the population. It dirt road jungle with a lack/limited of control/organization. Does that mean we shouldn't try, of course not. Even a 50% vaccination rate is going to reduce the likelihood someone is infected in the first place and make containment that much easier.

That is a long way of saying I agree and disagree with you.

I think the Skunkhead series is two in Houghton. I doubt they'd play a 500+ mile home/home series.

I was thinking the same thing. But then I thought that maybe they will play one Friday or Saturday in the UP and then another Friday or Saturday in AA.

I will make the change and we will see what happens.

I don't know if MTU is playing RMU this year, I thought it was 2021-22. I have them hosting Notre Dame for a single game on a ND/USNDPT weekend.

Both games again Merv's skunk team are in Houghton, second week of October as the kick-off to Michigan Tech's 100th anniversary season.

Just want to clarify the OOC tab formatting - green color teams have been confirmed and the black color teams are based on returning the visit / guess / rumored.

With that said - yes it's possible RMU - MTU is 21/22 instead of 20/21 so that's why it's in black and it was a guess on my end by owing a visit.

The LSSU/Notre Dame game will be on Thanksgiving week. The Fighting Irish were supposed to play a single game at NMU that same weekend but I guess the Wildcats backed out.

Would it be possible that Notre Dame would play Lake State and Michigan Tech in the same weekend? I have a hard time seeing the Irish making two trips to the UP for one game in each trip.

I know it says on the schedule thread that Kato is supposed to play ASU this year in Tempe, but I'm not sure that's the case. The person who started that thread listed some series where a team "owed" another team a trip, and that's why we were listed there, since ASU came to Kato this season.
But the ASU trip here may have been in return for our playing in the Desert Classic the previous year. Anyone have any better info on this?

From the Schedules Thread: "Updated spreadsheet to date. Please note that in the OOC tab, Column B - teams colored green are confirmed and teams colored in black is a guess based on owing a visit or rumored."

I have noted these games with "??" behind them, so they may not be taking place this year, or ever. I just had some time on my hands with work the other day and thought I would get a start on the schedule.

This is my understanding as well.

I have not heard the Mavs are headed to ASU, and I don’t believe that is the case.

Could be wrong, but I’d be surprised.
