That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

That's a big hill with one of the parties only interested in completely destroying the Republic. I'm hopeful the electorate once it sees competent government again will start to finally come around. It'll be too late for me but hopefully my kids will see the benefit.

These people don't actually exist in significant numbers and the polling doesn't bare it out either.

That means Biden restores our foreign policy to something sane while doing the right thing on judges (for all the complaints about Clinton and Obama from the left, I haven't heard of them being accused of putting conservatives on the bench). Congress then passes priority 1 which is updated voting rights legislation which everyone from AOC to Manchin should be on board with. Then he puts tax brackets at least back to Obama era while modestly expanding the ACA.

With a more favorable judiciary, higher taxes and expanded govt run healthcare including perhaps a public option, the groundwork has been laid for even further progressive legislation under the next Dem President who presumably will be younger than 80 years old. Who knows if Biden even runs for a 2nd term? If not that's the time for the left to pounce and finally seize the reigns. Think back to the great progressive legislation of the 1960's. Dems won the '58 mid terms then the Presidency in '60. They held their own due to Kennedy's popularity in '62 and then had a big victory in '64 with Johnson finishing up what JFK started and then going even further after a succession of electoral victories over the previous 8 years.
None of this happens without 50+ cloture. Would the grudging, middle of the road Democratic party, quickly losing steam and alienating everyone to the left of Evan Bayh, even do that? More likely we wind up with Obama 2.0 Except This Time Old, White, and Uncharismatic, and then the inevitable Dump-like reaction in 2024 with Don Jr. or some even more outrageous troll.

Agreed. I think the ones that become jaded/cynical give up on the process altogether, stop voting, and become as useless as t*ts on a boar in the political process.

I think that helps. It's far easier to retain your ideals when the world is Good vs Evil (2000 - present) then it is when both parties are a cartel colluding to serve the Plutes and keep the rest of rest of us divided (1980 - 2000).

Kep, its up to the progressives to keep up the fight. Think about the senate races coming up.

A Dem majority rests on Hickenlooper, Mark Kelly, Cal Cunningham, and Sara Gideon winning their races. I'm not aware of any of those people being considered flaming liberals. I think Cunningham is facing a primary from the left. The others may have cleared the field. So, the 50/50 Senate needs people like Tester and Manchin to supply the majority votes. So, what's a progressive to do?

In 2022, which is going to be a CRITICAL election if future liberal legislation is to be enacted, the left needs to elect their own people. Flip the seats in WI, FL, PA and NC with lefties. If Grassley, Patty Murray or Pat Leahy retire make sure you get your candidates in there too. There's a tremendous opportunity, regardless of who's President, to remake the Senate. The Bernie-AOC crowd needs to take advantage if they want to drive the bus.

Actually in South Carolina, it was probably Republicans deliberately trying to throw the election to Biden, who will then turn around and vote for Dump in the General.

More like Republicans looking to ratfuk the Dem election voted Sanders because that's what the cult leadership is telling them to do.

If Tester and Manchin go out of their way to sabotage the agenda of Bernie then they get primaried (which probably needs to happen before Manchin becomes a Republican anyhow). Also the president has executive power they can wield which he somehow just conveniently ignores.
