The ACA itself passed with 60 votes. They had to use a reconciliation bill to amend a few budget things in it later that year.

Y’all are absolutely right. Should have clarified it helped in getting it passed.

My first thought is to lay out OECD data, show people how badly we perform while spending 3x as much. Show how much of your money is going to premiums, out of pocket costs, and then think about what you don’t get checked out because you don’t want to spend $350 on an office visit. I’m guilty of that.
And then start showing how much we spend on dumps golf trips. The corporate tax break, and the absurd military spending.
Many of these middle of the road people are one illness away from bankruptcy.

I’m never gonna get on board with free college- that’s nonsense and we should reduce costs for those who qualify for it. Among other things.
The college discussion can come much later, and I agree cost reduction should be the near-term goal. What really needs to happen is a frank discussion with worker bees and employers of the actual value of 4-year college attendance. Accountants, engineers, hard sciences, teachers all definitely need 4-year degrees. Human resources, marketing, sales, graphic design, even computer programmers probably not so much. Let's also not forget about trade schools or aviation, both of which are in the throes of major shortages of qualified applicants, to the point that I saw recently a couple of airlines are starting to open their own flight schools, or are seriously considering it.

Should we eliminate K-12 education too? Is "free" kindergarten nonsense?

I'm on board with free college. However, I will compromise at free 2 year community/tech school if it comes to that. But WE HAVE TO get at least there or we're going to continue fighting upstream getting the economy in order.

                  Stop.

I simply don’t think every 12th grader is best fit for college. I like the way Germany does it. Some are better for trade school.

NYU is offering free med school, still gotta qualify

Just like the other poster who tried this, it's just a bad argument. "Hey we already have wait times, who cares if we have longer wait times?". Good luck selling that.

Maybe it wouldn't. But JD is saying that universal healthcare will lead to long wait times for care.

Priceless is simply pointing out that we already have long wait times for care. In the "greatest system in the world".

We don't know what the wait times will be. Maybe it will be shorter because the doctor wont have to wait a week for my insurance company to authorize the procedure.

People are talking about making post-secondary ed free, not mandatory.

Eliminating tuition is not the same as eliminating admission standards.

Or there won’t be so many people in line for specialists because they got their issue treated early instead of waiting til it was a huge issue

There are plenty of legitimate sites that indicate longer wait times for universal care. If Bernie can implement it with shorter wait times let him be President for life. I highly doubt it's possible.
