New CCHA Back From The Ashes.

I'll say it right off the bat, going back to the CCHA is not my favourite idea. But that being said, I wish the best for the league and the teams involved.

It's just a name... A name will not determine the success of a conference.

My guess is that the seven teams let all of the full D-I institutions vote on what they wanted the new conference name to be.
    Well CCHA it is...

Interesting fact, the new CCHA can have an inaugural logo AND a 50th anniversary logo simultaneously.

All the teams voted. D-II votes were worth one point. D-I votes worth 7. Final tally: CCHA wins 7-6.

Well all I can say is they're not getting all the crap back I bought at the original one's auction when it folded!

I'm warming up to the idea of using the name, if they actually rebrand it like the press release says. I think if they harken back to the old CCHA at all, it will be a step backward and a big mistake. If they do anything with the 50th anniversary, it won't be good.

    Wikipedia is updated:

And it looks like it'll be ccha.com, the WHOIS was updated last Friday:

My question is since Bowling Green has the Mason Cup tucked away somewhere I wonder if it will be the conference championship trophy again?

Agreed, but if a band started up today, and said they were going to call themselves Led Zeppelin, well...you might be setting yourself up for some piling on.

Any word on where the new headquarters will be? I'm betting near Bowling Green, but with the leaks coming out of Sault Ste. Marie and it being fairly centrally located, maybe the Soo gets the nod. It is the original Hockeytown USA after all according to one of the 2 commercials that they have during Laker TV broadcasts.

This is all a ploy for the GWHC to make a comeback!

I haven't been following this too close lately. What happens to the two Alaska teams and Alabama?

Your first guess is probably closer. BG owns the rights to all things CCHA. They made sure of that when it folded..just in case...

Best case scenario? A scheduling alliance with each other and maybe Arizona State. Maybe some good relations with Atlantic Hockey? Selling the benefits of the Alaska exemption to get home non-con dates from other schools?

Odds of 2-3 savior schools out west (much less >5 saviors in the southeast) are pretty slim.

As long as Shepherd has nothing to do with officials and they allow checking in this new "CCHA" league and don't treat it like old man hockey/women's hockey. I'm ok with the new league name.

Well, BGSU was the only remaining inaugural CCHA school, LSSU is second longest (one year short). It only made sense that either of those schools held onto the information. (Plus, tax records needed to be kept for 10 years was it?)

Hope the league is picking up the Fan Fest bar tab...
