Pay the researchers, for sure. But once it gets beyond that, it should be open to the public for security reasons.

I see. You want to privatize the CDC now. That's a great idea. The one thing that's missing from the CDC right now is a profit motive. If they had that they would be much further along.

We shouldn't be taking the coronavirus lightly though.
The thing is, the effort to prevent this virus from getting fully out is to PREVENT another influenza just getting out into the public. It's bad enough that the influenza is out there and so many people die from it every year. Preventing two totally different viruses from doing the same thing every year is a very important goal.

IMHO, that's where this moron in the white building misses the point.

Once it gets into the full public domain, then the world is relying on yet ANOTHER annual vaccine, hoping that they scientists get the mutation right, again. And another set of debates of the efficacy of those vaccines. And worse, another set of X% of the population that dies every year- in addition to what we have now.

Introducing a profit motive to the health care industry has been so successful. It only makes sense.

Who said anything about privatizing the CDC? You were whining that the CDC couldn't come up with any vaccines because of Trump. I was pointing out that vaccines don't come from the CDC, and aren't created by them.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

We shouldn't be taking it lightly?

Well the President of the United States is sure taking it lightly. He gutted all that Obama did during and after Ebola that would have been there to respond and contain new viral threats such as these. He did it with impunity. His press conference was a blatant attempt to bolster the stock market.

There are two things you do NOT CUT in government right now. Cyber security and the CDC. You don't do it. Period. He slashed them both.
Ya I wasn't defending Trump. I am rolling with the CDC 100 times out of 100 over what Trump says. I was just pointing out the comparison to flu is legitimate.

                        Don't panic.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Thursday that the government would ask all elementary, junior high and high schools to close from March 2 until spring break, typically around the end of March.
No biggie since the Japanese don't put particular social emphasis on education.

Report now that a Wuhan woman visited a family in China and infected all of them, while never getting sick herself. Really interesting

Most insurance companies pay for a flu vaccine. Why wouldn't they pay for a coronavirus vaccine?
