If you tell more than half the country that they can't go to work, or if you close their place of work, yeah you're going to see 3.3 million. Surprised it's not more, actually.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

We can resurrect an economy, but we can’t resurrect the dead. Not even if we’re open on Easter Day.

Scoobs we now have a new putdown for our knuckledragger friends. Any one of them that starts railing against socialism you can simply ask if they refused the one time payments from the Treasury. Try to capture the look on the faces on camera as they try to process that one.

It will be way up when people get done working through shutdowns, leave pay, etc. There are restaurants closing every day, more than there were last week. If the bonus becomes law there are a ton of hourly workers who will be begging for a lay-off.
I talked to a guy this morning who makes $400/week. Laid off, he would get $900. He is waiting for the final signature to plead with his boss to be sent home for the summer. And he will be, as a favor to a 15-year employee.

I'm running into that problem too. Right now we're just paying our employees, but they want the bonus. If I do it, it's unquestionably better for me, but it does not feel right at all.

400 bucks a week? Where does he work, on a plantation?

30 hours/week in a wood shop, running machines.
This is the UP. Any job where you’re not working for muskrat pelts is high society.
I hired a journeyman plumber for $25/hour last year. I had to talk him into taking a tip.

Well the job loss figures didnt offset the friggin BS bailout. Dow rising again. If that doesnt show what is wrong with this stupid country I dont know what does.

It is going to be great though when this stimulus deal does nothing to prevent total meltdown just like every other stimulus deal the GOP does. Then they will still rail against socialism cause god forbid we actually help people...only businesses truly need out help.

At this point when the Dow goes up you know you've just been screwed.

We need to start putting our money somewhere else (e.g., bonds, real estate). Once we sever the chokehold they have on us through our 401(k)s we can burn them to the ground.

They aren't the economy; they're a casino where either they win or we lose.

You mean like how Minnesota has plenty of money to deal with this because we have Dem Governors who prepare?

We do live in the correct state. If our state was in a country that wasn't so ****ed up we'd be in even better shape.
