Complete Fantasy Island thoughts: I also think Rohlik is the guy or DG, though I'm not opposed to someone outside the program like the dude at Kato.

I just can't bring myself to believe Oz has lost it. He was way more experience with college/USHL aged players than TG does, he should be able to get through to the players. Part of me thinks can TG now, make Oz the interim HC and let him try and clean up the mess in the 2nd half. If he succeeds, make him the HC and that would probably keep the recruits on board. If the recruits bail, UW is screwed because everyone who is any good is already committed for the next 3 yrs min. That being said it's probably in everyone's best interest that they have a great second half and all this consternation was for nothing. But it is hard to see much light at the end of the tunnel.
Why would we bring Don back? No, he bailed once; **** him. Hell no. If one gets fired, they all should.

I remember bangin' the drum for Enrico Blasi 5-6 years ago. Got whacked after 20 years at Miami, now an assistant at Denver U. Not a bad gig.

I agree with Rohlik, but I think he's very happy at tO$U. In addition, former Badger players haven't fared well here for quite a while.

Just a thought, I wonder how Mark Johnson would be doing to date if he was hired instead of Eaves?

To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case, my enemy is a varmint....and a varmint will never quit...ever. They're like Viet Cong...Varmint Cong, so you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower...and that's all she wrote. Au revoir, gopher." Karl Spackler 1980

He's 62, I don't know how many years he's got in the tank yet. If you need 4 years minimum to flip it, that's pushes the age up. I think all the Iron Man's he does is really aging him. I'll be selfish and say I'd hate to screw up the women's program for the sake of the men's.

No - time to go outside the UW umbrella. Steve Rohlik would be the only one to consider and I don't know that he would be interested.

I think it is pretty clear that Don didn't like the NCAA rules and restrictions and bailed right away. He has no interest in coming back is my understanding reading other sites.

Holy ****, I’d forgotten about the fact that we poached the Dhooghes and the Caufields from Rohlik.

I just don’t know what to think of Oz anymore. He’s a recruiter*, but he’s also the coach for our defensemen. And I don’t need to remind you guys that our defensive corps is where we have the greatest disparity between “NHL drafted talent” and “actual results”.

              * Worth remembering that, as iron clad as our respect for Mark Johnson is, he wasn’t the best recruiter when that was his role under Sauer. Maybe having a guy like Oz around is the right balance (just let MJ focus on coaching), but what I’m saying is… don’t take for granted that Mark would be just as magical behind the men’s bench as he’s been behind the women’s bench (or against Commies).
If you want to be a BADGER, just come along with me

              BRING BACK PAT RICHTER!!!

At his graduation ceremony from the U of Minnesota, my cousin got a keychain. When asked what UW gave her for graduation, my sister said, "A degree from a University that matters."

Canned music is a pathetic waste of your time.

Oz....maybe he has taken a backseat to TG's philosophies on how the D should play and he's trying to get them to play TG's way and not the Oz way. How else to you explain what we are seeing and what we know Oz to be? Are all these D physically gifted but have the Hockey IQ of a Peewee C player?

MJ knows his X's and O's and his players play hard all the time and they play within the systems like machines, but he has created a situation where recruiting is "easy" compared to the men's game that I don't think is translatable to the men's game.

Poached this from the Goofer thread. Sound familiar?

"Like many hockey coaches, Motzko told the Strib in November he subscribes to the theory that the first team to score three goals in a game usually wins. Then Motzko and his staff must take responsibility for the fact that the Gophers are 2-8-3 since Oct. with a GPG of 2.3. To add insult to injury the Gophers are now #4 among 60 teams in the NCAA in GA (3.47). That's poor defending (Raboin's dept.) and inconsistent goaltending.

The "this is a young team and we'll have to learn from this" excuse is getting old. We're 17 games in the season, are we going to hear this until March? Out of the 4 lines tonight, less than half are FR. That's manageable and that's teachable. "We're disappointed, we played hard tonight" said Motzko...ok but you lost! Is this what Pride on Ice has descended too...moral victory mantras?

In the meantime, chicken little is knocking at the door and this season is just about toast."

It's exciting to ponder the future of the sport with a stable and mega successful person with stable and mega successful minions running it for him. I should probably get back into the open wheel thread, but I have limited time and the women's site is fun with about 14 of us keeping the threads rolling and having fun poking fun of eachother.

That's comical because a few weeks ago some of the boys across the room were laughing at us trashing Granato.
