Highlights from Edina's 6-1 win over Benilde-St. Margaret's in tonight's Section 6AA semifinal. Sophomore D (and Gopher recruit) Vivian Jungels had the game of her young career, scoring 4 times including a pure hat trick in the first period.

You could see from the highlights that the Forest Lake goalie didn't have her best night. It was going to be an uphill battle for Forest Lake, regardless.

Not being from MN I don’t know what’s acceptable during playoffs, but is it typical for a team to celebrate that much after scoring the 7th goal in a blowout? Maybe they toned it down after the 8th goal. Seems a bit of overkill to me, but maybe anything goes in playoffs...

Really too bad the FL player who would have been their starting goalie decided to play for the boys team this year.

It would have made a big difference in the final score, if not the outcome.

Sectional play will conclude this evening, then onto State. Not too far of a stretch to predict that Andover and Edina will be playing for the Class AA State Championship on the 22nd.

I also thought their celebrations were overdone, starting when it got to 5-0 or so, when the outcome was assured.

It seemed to be more spontaneous joy than anything else, and was consistent with what they had done before. I don't know the individuals, so don't know if there is ever a backstory, such as, "It was her first tournament goal," etc. As far as blowouts in a state tournament go, I've seen far worse than 8-0, and some of those players only quit celebrating because it was running time and was cutting into their chances to score.

The more uncomfortable moment for me was when the medals were being awarded and the Forest Lake girl skates over to offer congratulations and is ignored. The Andover player likely didn't see her, but one of the coaches must have.

The supposed over-celebration? Please...

Josie Bothun likely wouldn't have allowed that many goals but there is a pretty wide gap in overall team talent between Andover and Forest Lake.

Peyton Hemp was the player that ignored the Forest Lake player in the award ceremony. I'm ok with that especially if she has that much disdain for an opponent in, say a red uniform with white lettering, when she's in college.

Nice story about two ex-D1 women players now battling each other as high school coaches for the right to advance to the State Tournament.

State Tournament starts Wednesday with Single A competition. Lots of good hockey ahead...Should be streaming available for the quarterfinals but I'm not sure if they are free or if you need to purchase. I think I purchased the quarterfinals last year if I'm remembering correctly.

The Strib player of the year has been Ms. Hockey nearly every year the award winner was a senior. Most likely Ms will be Mobley or Delianedis (imo they both are the best 2 Sr's in the state). First time in FOREVER that a future Gopher/Badger/WCHA player has not won it. I believe the last non-WCHA attending player was Katherine Chute of Blake in 2007 who attended Harvard. 2006 winner Allie Thurnstrom of North St. Paul who attended Boston College.

What a catch by Cornell to have Ms Hockey finalists from 2019, 2020, and most likely 2021. Guilday may have been the best high school D in Minnesota this year as a Junior. She and Hemp have to be the 2 favorites to win next year. If it is even close then it will no doubt be won by Hemp and all will be right in the world again with a future Gopher winning the award again (after Wethington, Heise, Zumwinkle, etc).
