Kidding aside, it’ll be interesting to see how new recruiting rules might affect where the top younger prospects land over the next few years, not just those from MN. Since coaches can’t talk to players until after soph year that could give players more time to look around and really think about what they want out of college (scholarship money, academics, region of the country, etc) ...instead of jumping on an offer in 8th grade. Reality is not every top player wants to go to UW or UM, mind-blowing as that may be! No doubt UW & UM and other top programs will continue to get elite recruits, but even they could benefit from waiting to see how a player develops. Just because a girl seems ”elite” as an 8th grader doesn’t mean that will continue until she’s a junior in high school and beyond. Rules should benefit both sides and may even create a little more parity in women’s hockey as players (and coaches) have more time to consider their options.

So they would rather pay 65k - some grant money for a total of around 35-40k per year vs around 14-15k? Keep in mind some families have a target on an Ivy school come hell or high water. Also If you are a pretty good athlete it's a way to get in if you can't muster the 30 ACT to get in. I don't mean that in a negative way to any athletes that choose Ivy but my point is that it is very demanding to get in if you are vying for academic purposes only.

Taking a bit of discussion that took place over on GPL about recruiting Minnesota high school girl's hockey and moving it here. No Gopher, or for that matter, no BADger recruit on the 1st team all metro girls team.

Well, for what it's worth, here is another list strictly for comparison. The Gophers and BADgers seem to be doing just fine as they have NZ's top 5 spots.

Neutral Zone's ranking of 2020 recruits.

            1. Abbey Murphy - Gopher recruit
            2. Makenna Webster - BADger recruit
            3. Maggie Nicholson - Gopher recruit
            4. Maddie Wheeler - BADger recruit
            5. Casey O'Brien - BADger recruit
            6. Olivia Mobley - Bobcat recruit
            7. Adelaide Burton - Gopher recruit
            8. Madelyn Skelton - UVM recruit
            9. Lindsay Bochna - Providence recruit
            10. Lily Delianedis - Cornell recruit
            11. Anne Cherkowski - Gopher recruit
            12. Audrey Wethington - Gopher recruit

Totally agree that UW & UM will continue to get top talent. Point is that several of those players committed in 8th or 9th grade or were at least having many conversations while they were very young. Now that players have to wait to commit, maybe some of them will consider other options. Or maybe not. Time will tell, once the class of 2024 starts to commit.

I believe the last non-WCHA attending player was Katherine Chute of Blake in 2007 who attended Harvard. 2006 winner Allie Thurnstrom of North St. Paul who attended Boston College.

What a catch by Cornell to have Ms Hockey finalists from 2019, 2020, and most likely 2021. Guilday may have been the best high school D in Minnesota this year as a Junior. She and Hemp have to be the 2 favorites to win next year. If it is even close then it will no doubt be won by Hemp and all will be right in the world again with a future Gopher winning the award again (after Wethington, Heise, Zumwinkle, etc).
2008 Lauren Smith - Holy Angels - Minnesota State Mankato
she was followed by 7 straight years of players going to Minnesota

it looks to me like the early commit and the emphasis on International players has led to this, late bloomers are ... late to commit

Breck was held to only 8 goals in the first period against Luverne and Shirley who were outshot 25-6 in the period (8-0 is the score). Hey Breck, maybe it's time for you to do what Blake did and move up to Class 2A.

Breck literally played keep-away and absolutely did not try to score registering no shots on goal in the second period. Luverne barely had the puck and also put up 0 shots on goal. Not fun to watch at all.

Well Breck displayed their sportsmanship, I guess, by continuing to not shoot the puck and even allowing Luverne to score a goal. 8-1 final.

Hopefully the next game between Rochester Lourdes and South St Paul will be more competitive.

I always skip the quarterfinals of the Class A tournament because of lopsided games like this one. In most years the only competitive game is the last one, where the Nos. 4 and 5 seeds meet.

True, as was evidenced by Rochester Lourdes winning in OT 2-1 in the just completed late game.

I did watch most of this one. Tremendous solo effort by Emma Schmitz (senior - Sacred Heart recruit) for the game winner.

It would be nice to watch today's games on Prepspotlight. But of course that requires a functioning Web site...

Anywho, Andover is leading Farmington 2-0 in the first game after 1 period. And I as type that I finally get into the streaming page.
