I agree.

Not to speak for the league, but my understanding of the rationale is this:

By dividing them up by location, even though everyone plays everyone twice, the format avoids the possibility - at its most extreme example - of Adrian playing St. Scholastica (12 hours by bus) on the first two weekends. Simply put: It cuts down on the travel costs.

I am not aware of a good "hockey" reason for it.

But at the same time, it increases the likelihood that a Lawrence or Marian travels to Duluth or Hancock instead of Mequon or Milwaukee.

I am not aware of a good "hockey" reason for it.

A better plan would be to qualify for the tournament by league results, and then (if necessary) adjust matchup to reflect travel distances. You know, like the NCAA does. That way, you get your top 8 teams in the playoffs, and it avoids the situation that puts Lawrence and St. Scholastica in the playoffs, and leaves out Concordiaa and MSOE.

Ahh, you are correct. In my mind I confused the 2014 NCHA championship game with the NCAA game.
