Colgate 9, UMass Lowell 6, SOG after one.
Colgate 2, UMass Lowell 1, score after one.
Hard work paid off in that period.
We didn’t give up, after their first well-executed goal.
Our first goal (to tie the game) was the result of a pile in front of their net, but we kept at it.
Our second goal was again the result of hard work. Great goal.
We had one Power Play and we continue to just shoot it in (not carry it in). But, I am not complaining. And Mitch is again making some super saves. Fun period.
UMass Lowell 20, Colgate 19, SOG after two.
Colgate 3, UMass Lowell 2, score after two.
First three shots and one goal to tie it for UML.
But our third goal was a repeat of our second... shot and tip.
We didn’t give up. We worked hard.
But now I expect we will just attempt to dump the puck out of our end... for 20 minutes. This will be frustrating for a ‘Gate fan, I believe.
I am back at the hotel now, but still wound up.
What a great game and not just because Colgate won, but because it was a pretty close match-up.
Both teams were pretty even on Shots On Goal, until we tried to sit on a one-goal lead for the entire third period.
I counted thirteen times that we just dumped the puck out of our end, before their fateful power play goal.
Only a couple of times in the third period were we truly aggressive. Thankfully we were in the OverTime.
Since I don't do a good job on here of identifying the players (other than goalie Mitch Benson, who again played a stellar game), here are our goals tonight...
13:04 of first, Jared Cockrell from Arnaud Vachon and Paul Meyer.
16:27 of first, Paul McAvoy from Henry Marshall and Trevor Cosgrove.
3:59 of second, Trevor Cosgrove from Nick Austin and Griffin Lunn.
0:09 of overtime, Ben Scharf from Nick Austin.
I thought it was a real team effort tonight, and hopefully the guys will remember the excitement and feeling of accomplishment in the locker room after the game... for tomorrow night's game.
We can do it... again.
Very happy today about the win, you have to learn how to win. Also, Colgate Cornell football is on ESPN+ at 1:30 today, with a win we could tie the series up for the first time ever I believe, over 100 years.
Strangely enough, the series is at 49-48 Cornell, our series with Syracuse is 49-49, until next year, dammit.
When Lowell scored first to take a 1-0 lead, I thought "oh dear, this could be a long night". But no, we responded well and even had leads of 2-1 and 3-2. But we did get a little lackadaisical in the 3rd period. McMann had a shorthanded breakaway that was stopped, and seconds later Lowell scored a PPG to tie it and I thought, "crap". Then 9 seconds into OT we win it and I'm probably one of the only people in the building that was elated.
Winning breeds confidence. Can this be the spark that fuels the team this season?

In answer to your question Shabby, hockey beat football to the first win..
Mitch Benson in goal for night two in Lowell.
Hoping to sweep the weekend, but that might be too much for which to hope against a team that has already defeated the defending national champions.
UMass Lowell 12, Colgate 8, SOG after one.
Colgate 0, UMass Lowell 0, score after one.
Good period of hockey.
Colgate bounced one in, but it was called offside.
I think one penalty to each team.
Go ‘Gate.
UMass Lowell 21, Colgate 20, SOG after two.
Colgate 0, UMass Lowell 0, score after two.
Great hockey game.
Up and back. Great goaltending by Benson and UML’s Wall (different goalie than last night’s Neaton of UML).
After last night’s game, UMass Lowell coach Norm Bazin said Colgate was ‘desperate.’ If so, desperation seems to be working as a motivation.
UMass Lowell 34, Colgate 25, SOG after OT.
Colgate 0, UMass Lowell 0, score after OT.
Successfully killed a PP call against Penner in OT for delay of game.
Great game!!
