I feel for the Brewers. To climb all the way back into the race in September just to be undone by a simple, Little League type error has to be guy wrenching.

A rookie witwith 51 lifetime MLB games under his belt did NOT lose the game for the Brewers.

Did you not see the choke job Hader did that whole inning? That was his FIFTH straight blown save.

    Blaming the rookie is lazy.

I think Counsell did an amazing job with that team, especially putting together that run after Yelich went down.

        This.

I know nothing about Hader. Is he supposed to be any good?

When he's on, his slider is unhittable. Nasty, nasty pitch.

            Yes.

He was absolutely lights out in his first season with the Brewers, and was given the role as closer in 2018 after starting as a late inning reliever. His fastball approaches Chapman speeds. But he's had some control issues off and on (as seen last night) His stuff was so good he was named to the All Star Game in his first full season (last year). And I can't find it, but I believe he had a string of 30+ straight games saved last year.

This year, hitters either caught up to him or he's pitching injured because he's been knocked around a lot. He's given up double the HR's. And he now has five straight blown saves in his last five appearances.

After watching him get teed off in Colorado, I was really surprised he was given as much rope as he was to allow himself to be hung.

His slider was all over the map last night. He had zero control of it.

Well, no... Pitching was the root of the matter. It's why they were in that bases loaded spot. If that ball is fielded correctly, there is a chance they could have escaped the inning with the lead or a tie.

Every Brewers fan could have told you putting Hader in the 8th was a terrible idea. It was even more terrible when his pitch count was 20.

Yeah, the error was bad, and it wound up sealing their fate. But Hader was already pushing 30 pitches in the 8th. Even if he got out of that, just who did they think was going to pitch the 9th? Were they going to let him pick up a 55-pitch save?

That's the thing. The game probably would have been tied anyway since it was two outs and the runners were going on contact. Even a perfect throw would have been tough to get the second guy coming to the plate.

Then, Washington would have still been at bat with a runner still in scoring position with Hader still pitching like crap. And who knows what would have happened had the game gone tied for more innings.

It was not the outfielder's fault.

And that's the end of the A's for the season.

I suspect that Houston is going to do the same thing to the Rays in fairly short order.

It wasn't 100% the outfielder's fault. He had some blame.

If we're going to spread some blame around, why are we not getting after Ben Gamel for not having enough oomph on his hit to get a 2-run dinger? Or Counsell for not yanking Hader?

So just stop. It's over. The Brewers lost.

Hader effed up. No doubt. But the OF did commit an error. Had he stopped that ball, and as Russell said, who knows what would have happened after that?
