Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores
And Amherst beats 2 seeded Colby. This could change with the last UCHC semifinal but it looks like Eau Claire is still the #3 PWR, River Falls will claim the 2nd Pool C.
It looks like if both Middlebury and Elmira win out tomorrow that the final Pool C will be Amherst, Augsburg or Hamilton.
If the field was picked right now it would be Amherst but they may fall if they lose tomorrow (and if they win Midd is almost certainly a Pool C).
EDIT: Endicott cashes in on their Pool A bid, beating UNE for the final CHC Championship.Last edited by Scott_TG; 03-07-2020, 08:05 PM.

Here's what the tournament looks like right now:
Pool A bids:
CHC: Endicott
MIAC: Gustavus Adolphus
NCHA: Adrian
NEHC: Norwich
NEWHL: Plattsburgh
NESCAC: Winner of Amherst @ Middlebury
UCHC: Winner of Manhattanville @ Elmira
Pool C bids:
UW-Eau Claire
UW-River Falls
Amherst
Scenarios:
If Amherst wins, I don't think Middlebury would fall behind enough for Augsburg to overtake them. I think it would just be a swap of who is Pool A and who is Pool C and what ever implications it has on seeding.
Amherst has 59 points and the next Pool C is Augsburg sitting at 57. If Amherst loses tomorrow, Augsburg needs Amherst's RPI to drop below both them and Norwich. Augsburg and Amherst have no common opponents so their comparison for 1 PWR point is on RPI alone and that would leave them tied at 58 PWR points.
On the way down to where Augsburg is in RPI would take Amherst below Norwich in RPI as well and that would swing the PWR point decided between Amherst and Norwich over to the Cadets as Norwich has the COP advantage but Amherst has the H2H. Whoever finishes with the higher RPI after tomorrow wins that point. If Amherst falls below Norwich and Augsburg in RPI, it would give them 57 points and Augsburg would still have 58.
If Amherst if the Pool C:
First Round:
Norwich @ Amherst
GAC @ River Falls
QF:
Norwich/Amherst @ Plattsburgh
Endicott @ Middlebury
GAC/UW-RF @ UW-Eau Claire
Adrian @ Elmira
If Augsburg is the Pool C, I think they might put the four Wisconsin/Minnesota teams in the first round to avoid the flights:
First Round:
Augsburg @ Eau Claire
GAC @ River Falls
QF:
Norwich @ Plattsburgh
Endicott @ Middlebury
GAC/River Falls @ Augsburg/Eau Claire
Adrian @ Elmira
This avoids both having flights before the semis and intra-conference games in the first round so the bracket works.Last edited by Scott_TG; 03-07-2020, 10:29 PM.

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores
I'd be very surprised if Amherst fell below Augsburg considering the .0088 RPI gap. Amherst's win percentage will drop by .0298 with a loss but that's only 25 percent of the formula (.0075 off its RPI). And Amherst will get an SOS boost from playing a 21-2-3 team.
Where things would get really interesting is if Amherst and Manhattanville both win tomorrow, knocking Elmira out. That would mean Adrian would have to fly somewhere and make the bracket a lot harder to predict.

If the Amherst and Manhattanville win the field would be:
Plattsburgh
Middlebury
Endicott
Eau Claire
River Falls
GAC
Amherst
Norwich
Adrian
Manhattanville
I think they would try to cut down on flights by putting Adrian through to the QF, but they have to play one seeded Plattsburgh to balance that out. They did that with St. Thomas flying to Plattsburgh a few years ago. I also think they may put the two Wisconsin teams and GAC to avoid a flight in the quarters involving any of them.
First round:
Manhattanville @ Norwich
GAC @ River Falls
QF
Adrian @ Plattsburgh
Norwich/Manhattanville @ Middlebury
GAC/RF @ UW-Eau Claire
Amherst @ Endicott
At the point where flights before the semis are inevitable this guarantees only 1 and it avoids intra-conference in the first round as well.

Swap GAC/RF vs Aug/EC with End/Midd vs Nor/Platts and you don’t have any QF flights.
However with the current rankings, it does make more sense for the first rounds to be out west.
Of course the intelligent thing to do is take 5 grand of the multibillions they are about to make off Basketball and fly the Adrian/Elmira winner in a QF matchup.UWS Ladyjackets

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores
Middlebury and Amherst scoreless after 2.
Elmira and Manhattanville scoreless in the middle of the first
Edit: Amherst takes a 1-0 lead at 17:29 left in the third. #2 for Amherst got a breakaway and the Midd defender who arrived first couldn't clean up the rebound from Han's save and Wong scored the rebound.
Valiants and Soaring Eagles scoreless after 1.
Edit 2: Leidt tips one in to tie the game at 1 with 13:51 left. Amherst scores on the next shift 13 seconds later to make it 2-1.Last edited by Scott_TG; 03-08-2020, 02:33 PM.

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores
Amherst holds on for the 2-1 win. They take the Pool A and Middlebury will be the third Pool C (likely the first or second depending on how this shakes out in PWR).
Elmira and Manhattanville is now a win or go home contest.
Manhattanville gave up the first goal but just scored two quick ones to make it 2-1 mid 2nd period.
Edit: Valiants score again! 3-1 lead on the Soaring Eagles
Edit 2: Elmira makes it 3-2, scoring on a power play that remained after a 5 on 3 expired. End of 2nd period came shortly after. SOG 26-11 in favor of Elmira.
Edit 3: Elmira tied it at 3 in the third. Currently 7+ mins left in the 3rd period.
Edit 4: UCHC POTY Emma Crocker puts Elmira ahead with a snipe from the slot. 6 mins left in the 3rd period.Last edited by Scott_TG; 03-08-2020, 03:51 PM.

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores
Elmira completed the comeback and finished off Manhattanville 5-3.
With today's results the field is:

NCHA: Adrian
NEHC: Norwich
NESCAC: Amherst
NEWHL: Plattsburgh
UCHC: Elmira
Pool C's:
Middlebury
UW-Eau Claire
UW-River Falls
I think the bracket will shape up to:
First round:
Norwich @ Amherst
GAC @ River Falls
QFs:
Norwich/Amherst @ Plattsburgh
Endicott @ Middlebury
GAC/RF @ UW-Eau Claire
Adrian @ Elmira
