Hey, there was a snake handler church within 20 miles of where I lived in MD (across the border in WV. Of course.). Also a KKK outpost. Also these fun folks.

This is why I get amused when people talk about "the effete coasts."

My mom noted today that one of the ex-priests Michigan's AG is prosecuting for sex crimes, is the son of a couple of her late parents' friends. Fortunately for them, neither lived to see this.

Surprisingly, that was not done today in the Vatican gardens.

Wasn't done today on my church's lawn, either.

              Elections have consequences.

Francis has now appointed more than half of the 128 cardinal electors, increasing the possibility that the next pope will continue his progressive policies.

Over six years he has appointed more cardinal electors than those still alive who were named by former Pope Benedict and the late Pope John Paul combined.

If he had quit it all, B16 would have gone back to Joseph Ratzinger, but he kept the title of B16. Benedict, an accomplished canon lawyer, knew exactly what he had done. Effectively he created a Head of Government (Francis) and Head of State (Benedict).

Do we have an anti-pope? I don't think so. What we Catholics have is Mass confusion under Francis. But, with Francis being a Jesuit, I expected no different.

Whatever lets you call yourself a Catholic while opposing the Pope. I believe there is a more technical term for that.

BTW, if your theory is correct then when Benedict dies will the College of Cardinals meet and choose a new "head of state," or you will just name your own based on your ideology, creating a Shia/Sunni Catholic split?

Francis, I believe, is far out there in matters of faith and morals. But he is a Jesuit which explains all.

Well, instead of whining about Francis, you could do something about it and walk away from Catholicism.

My dad did RCIA, but still believes in some flavor of double predestination that he's made up on his own, and also believes the Pope is not infallible on any matters. *shrug*

Did a Jesuit college reject you or something? Your hatred for them is unbecoming.

Do Catholics not believe the Pope is chosen by men who are following the will of God? If so, how can you question the Pope?

Perhaps his preachings of human rights and love for more than just fetuses are actually positive things?

Since the whole thing is a myth anyway I obviously have no problem with somebody personalizing their theology. Literally whatever works is equal in the eyes of a non-existent deity.

But I don't really see the point with being a half measure Catholic like joe. The whole idea is the ontological grounding of Ultimate Authority in Holy Mother Church. If you're not going to go for that then, meh, just join another of the millions of silly Protestant denominations. The entire centrality of Catholicism is a formal surrender of your reasoning capacity to a supervisor ostensibly named by God. If you're going to exercise your own judgment you've already failed as a Catholic. You're a Lutheran with somewhat less flamboyant fashion sense and perhaps more of a preference for girls.
