After the Joe Connor penalty, 2 quick goals by Az St - I shut it down after trying to find the streaming game...did hockey tv have the game?
Lot of nasty penalties from the start . . Demetrios Koumontzis a 10:00!? Sounds like a revenge game and then I see Fear got ice time and gave up 2, after KP gave up 3.
I would like to hear from anyone that saw the game, to get an idea what the issues are. I am concerned the younger Defensemen are still working out their on-ice play together. Note that Zach Metsa was out there for 4 of 5 scores, but without seeing the game - that is meaningless point admittedly and I have to go back in to see which lines matched up poorly or well....ah! So much is missed just looking at recap and stats....Zach did well last season and so did Peter....could it have been Shorty?

I was at the game, definitely a revenge game for ASU. The ice was also terrible A lot of pucks sticking or hopping over sticks. There was a visible dip in the surface behind the net under the scoreboard. The surface also changed dramatically through each period.
There were a few guys on the ice that played their butts off, but there were a lot of Bad penalties and the PP was HORRIBLE. Going empty on the 5 min major wirh 4 of it on a fresh sheet was big. PK was not good either. Finally, a lot of the shots were on the ice, they elevated more in the latter part of the game. I think we miss Alex a lot. Fear was at the opposite end of the ice from me. He Looked like he made some nice saves. I’m not sure about the two goals, I couldn’t really see if he had a chance at them.

Thank you so much! I would like to track defensive rotation and goals, see if pattern develops. Measure defensive prowess by who is on the ice when opposition scores, but i am sure Rand, Bill Riga & Joe are working to find the combination and build some depth.
For tonight's streaming game, this is the path to the link: Click schedule and you will see it. Once the live stream has started, right around 7pm Arizona Time, it should be live.

2 goals in 1st....rough and tumble game!! Zach on ice for both goals? Arewe thin on Defensemen? I like this team but they seem out-physical, and PP is missing. These kids need to find themselves....horrible Arizona St facility.....

I'm glad they're getting punched in the mouth early in the season. It's a young team, they need to learn hard lessons if they want to achieve some goals this season.
Good stuff by Rand to actually go down there to a facility that appears worse than the NIP. He remembers where Quinnipiac hockey used to be, and it's quite a nice thing to give ASU home games. I remember that when we used to host games at the NIP, Dartmouth and Cornell lost there because they just didn't know how to react to such an arena with the fans right on top of them. For those of you who are younger QU hockey fans, the NIP was even louder than the PUC gets. That place was nuts for big games. It was an intimidating little rink with awful locker rooms. Teams didn't know what hit them.
Keith Petruzzelli is looking like a huge problem in goal. I'm not sure he's a guy that can carry a team or even steal games. Just has been a massive disappointment in my opinion so far during his time in Hamden.

There are moments of chaos in the D zone & in front of the net where we would hope he could remain calm and freeze the puck as we’ve seen in years past. Unfortunately, it looks like panic settles in and, in far too many cases, the puck ends up in the net.
This team has good leadership, but is still young and panic will happen. The goaltender needs to be able to calm the storm or steal a win from time to time.
ASU out battled every 50/50 puck and their forecheck during the PP left QU in scramble mode. The shorthanded ASU goal was a total breakdown.
I've said this before... KP has confidence issues and that permeates to the rest of the team. When he's on, he's very good... but that seems to be the exception. Going a step further, I'd even say the team as a whole has a confidence issue when he's in net, especially when playing from behind. It was very hard to tell on the video feed this weekend, but it didn't appear they ever developed any flow. Maybe it was ASU, maybe it was something else. Whatever it was, it was missing all weekend. They haven't developed a "swagger" yet. Hopefully they can find it soon.

I think your right about KP. Even last year whenever he was in net the team played completely different almost like they had to protect him. And like last year it is taking a toll on the team. We also had a similar situation when Chris Truehl was in net the team could not quite gel. I am not sure what the answer is but I think putting Fear in on Friday was a test to see how he would handle the situation.

To be fair the D in front hasn't been great, but that's exactly when you need your goalie to step up. When that confidence isn't there the team makes adjustments in order to not give up odd man rushes.
Maybe it's part of being a young team. The problem is there aren't too many mulligans in today's game.
