I hadn't heard about the discounted student tickets. SHU had tremendous student turnout last night. Us, not so much.

It was nice to see the sponsorship and money out into the event. They completely rebranded the Ice and boards which gave it a more official look. Though I agree with Mark that the price was a bit high for a casual fan. I heard they offered 10.00 tickets to students with ID. From my few visits to see the sound tigers, it seemed concession pricing was their standard charges. Again, a little steep for a casual fan.

It was nice to see SHU celebrate, unfortunately at our expense. The program is getting there and that is a good thing for Hockey in our state.

Yeah I'm really happy for them. They announced this weekend they're building a new hockey arena on-campus which is extraordinary for an Atlantic Hockey club who gets friends and family only and has to play all its games at Webster Bank. Makes you wonder if they're going to try to do what we did and move up conferences. A 4,000 seat arena in the Atlantic league seems pretty large, so hopefully they can really get on track. Definitely a program on the rise.

Not sure who would have complained about SHU's celebration...

They played like champions and celebrated like champions. Good for them.

Any other team would have done the same. This tourney was THAT important to the 4 CT schools.

Sacred Herat arrived on a national hockey scene, in a televised tournament, beating big hockey powers to take the title and send the message out that they have a real program worth taking notice. I could care less, since they need to maintain it year over year like Quinnipiac and Yale have and UCONN shows they can buy the best talent from Moscow.

Also, the SNY camera coverage was superb!!

Not sure all D1 hockey games are like this, but Bobcats, especially our baby bobcats sometimes go into 'rush mode' slapping anything that moves.....reminding me of electric football game..*******http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/19cn...ge.gi*********

I feel SHU is the real deal. Can they sustain it? Time will tell. It wasn't that long ago that we were in the exact same position.

I think it's great (even if it came at our expense) that the CT Ice championship is the first championship of any kind for the Pioneers. It's the little steps along the way that make any program stronger.

Also, the SNY camera coverage was superb!!
I've watched most of Saturday's game against UConn and feel they needed a few more angles, but otherwise the camera work was great. The announcers, however... I just can't take much of Colby Cohen. He talks way too much and, like Melrose, favors whoever currently has the momentum.

I love the Quinnipiac ESPN+ announcers, but the quality of the camera work seemed better than ESPN+, I liked the angles also. My guess is they used few more cameras since this was a multiple game/multiple day shoot?

Forget the bad link, it was to a animated gif of an old electric football game...where the players vibrate in place erratically and unpredictably. Sometimes these D1 games exhaust me to watch. There is just so much east-west activity, I wonder how these kids sustain it!

It's not just the camera angles -- SNY put a lot of effort into these games. Pregame and postgame coverage from the studio, sideline reporter -- they put a ton of production quality and expenses into this, and they should be commended for how they produced it.

And now, back to the regularly broadcast ESPN+ games that pretty much, have the season hinged on winning at least 1 if not both weekend games. This weekend is not at all about TV or cameras.

Cornell is a very, very, good & very physical, deep team. Their Defensemen are huge and their goalie is excellent! And they have a lot of "kids" on their roster but not as many as Bobcats do.

Gate always a tough competitive team against every Bobcat team the past several years.

This weekend either begins the surprise of the year, and a huge run OR the beginning of the slight re-build, working live games and creative line + defensive combinations, which will no-doubt, exponentially evolve this huge youth-movement for the next several years, which in my mind is going to lead to National Championships, through to Rand's next contract negotiation, which will be at such a competitive price because he will likely be sought out by NHL franchises with a dearth of NHL recruits on the ice and that amazing track record.

Some weekends count more than others, or, not.

I don't see Rand ever leaving this program. It's his and has his signature all over it. Any other head coaching position at any level would simply be a job. This is obviously his passion.

Pretty sure he's also said in the past that he has no interest in the NHL and that he doesn't want to move his family when he'll be changing jobs every 3-4 years. Let's be honest -- he's the coach here at QU until he no longer wants to be. And there's no indication he has any desire to leave any time soon.

Pecknold has been successful enough that I am certain he's had offers in the past. He will never have the power and prestige elsewhere that he has as the architect / savior / God of Q hockey. He won't leave and he shouldn't.
