If you're talking about the old Dahlgren Hall ice rink, then you're right. Dahlgren Hall is still there but the seasonal ice rink was replaced by the McMullen Ice Arena in 2007. Olympic size sheet and seating for 695. Expandable by a few hundred.

Oh, and high school hockey is doing just fine in the immediate Annapolis area. https://www.monumentalhockeyhub.com/...9-mshl-varsity

Welcome, Conor! Lots of assists as the top forward scorer on a top-third NAHL team as a '99. Looks like he came into his own as an over-age guy this year. That's our profile.

Funny how this whole UAH resurrection and LIU initiation is an example of the trickle-down (or is it trickle-up?) system. Witherspoon had committed to D3 Norwich less than 2 weeks ago, so now Norwich will need to find a replacement for him. Tons of movement yet to come until both UAH and LIU rosters are seemingly full, I imagine.

LOL, the "criminally" reference made me think you were referring to Lorton. Anyway, SPA was a nothingburger hockey-wise right from the git-go. A brief fling with an ECHL franchise IIRC but that's all. Location in Upper Marlboro is nowhere near any of the areas where youth hockey has always had a presence.

Reiterating that Navy D1 hockey could succeed if the rumored initiative isn't once again drydocked.

Chicagoland has had the same boom in youth hockey thanks to the popularity of the Blackhawks.

Unfortunately, Northwestern, Illinois, and even Northern Illinois have been more interested in making fart noises instead of starting a D1 program during the last decade.

The one I’m surprised at is Illinois State. They have a good football program for the FCS. But they don’t exist in most of Chicago’s mind. There is a 7,000 seat hockey arena down the street. Low level pro teams have failed, but it’s a college town. With the arena already there, it’s a lower up front investment. They could’ve been the only D1 hockey school in the state (depending on U of I). Oh well. Not gonna happen.

Well, Peoria has had the Rivermen in one form or another just 40 minutes up the road, so it's not like ISU would have been the only game in town. I don't think hockey would work there...

He’s talking about Bloomington which is the definition of a pro (and now USHL) graveyard. ISU’s club team plays in Grossinger Motors Arena where a FPHL team might play this fall (they still haven’t announced a name or logo so it might be DOA).

Hard to believe its been almost a quarter-century since UIC played its last game.

Glad to see UAH finally signing some recruits. These look like pretty solid guys and about as good as we can hope for at this point. Scoville is another huge defenseman. With he and Ayo we have a couple of oak trees on the blue line to go with our smaller puck-movers (the ones still around). Hope they can skate at the D1 level.
