  • Republicans Are Running for President too!

We have a thread devoted to the Democratic candidates for president but not the Republicans. That's not fair. There are four Republicans in the field this time.

Former South Carolina governor, US Representative and an avid hiker Mark Sanford
Former US Representative and Father of the Year candidate Joe Walsh
    Former Massachusetts governor William Weld
    And some other nutcase.

But states are cancelling their GOP primaries, so these “candidates” have no shot

It's a warm up for when they cancel the election.

Re: Republicans Are Running for President too!

Speaking of the move to cancel primaries...

Former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld, one of three Republicans currently challenging President Drumpf for the 2020 GOP presidential nomination, on Sunday denounced the president's "dangerous form of megalomania” after multiple state Republican parties scrapped their primaries.

"The effort to stop elections — it kind of has a foreboding feel to it," Weld told the Boston Herald. "This is a recurring theme that people don’t have any choice. That kind of sums up [Drumpf's] approach — 'Wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t have elections?'"

Weld added that the schemes hatched by Drumpf are symptomatic a "dangerous form of megalomania" and argued that the president was "intent on taking over everything."

"He wants to be the only decision maker," Weld said.

Nazis don't do elections if they can help it.

Be proud of yourselves, Republicans. It did happen here. And you did it.

They tried in the mid 30's but they recruited the wrong military man to lead the coup. Should have gotten MacArthur.

This time around the military is going to help stop them. The cannon fodder and the defense contractors love Nazis, but the generals know what happened to the Wehrmacht and the Luftwaffe.

Remember when Obama was going to void the 2016 election results, declare martial law, and send all Republicans to Walmart death camps?

Such heady days of Tom Clancy/Michael Crichton-type dime store conspiracy theories.

Even with primaries, they all ave very little chance to unseat trump. In the states that do have primaries though, it does give us two chances to vote against Trump.

Weld was an excellent governor and is highly qualified for the job. Worth a look for anyone who puts themselves somewhere in the center right-center-center left range of the political spectrum.

Weld is the only R I ever voted for above the level of state rep.

He's basically Jack Kemp with less energy and brains, but compared to the Hitler Youth coming up through the R ranks he's Marcus F-cking Aurelius.

Ehh... jokes aside.... Summa Cum Laude from Harvard, Rhodes Scholar, Cum Laude Harvard Law pretty much tabs him as a pretty smart dude.

Regardless of how far left or right someone is, most should agree that the country could do a lot worse than a Weld presidency.

Obviously his chances are pretty low but imagine if everyone registered as unenrolled started taking republican ballots and voting for Weld.
