Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2019-2020: Muzzling All Detractors
For the first time in 19 years (since 2001), the Ohio State University Women's Hockey Team will play for the WCHA Title tomorrow after taking down the Gophers earlier today by a final score of 4-3 in OT. The Gophers came out firing and scored the first two goals of the game, both from Amy Potomak. Potomak's first goal was the only one scored in the first period and put the Gophers ahead 1-0 at the first intermission. Potomak's second goal put Minnesota up 2-0 early in the second period. Ohio State's Tatum Skaggs and Jennifer Gardiner would light the lamp to tie things up at 2. Minnesota's Taylor Heise scored late in the 2nd period to put the Gophers back on top 3-2 at the second intermission. Jennifer Gardiner scored the only goal of the third period to tie things up at 3 and give the fans some bonus hockey. The Buckeyes' Tatum Skaggs scored the game-winner in overtime to send Ohio State to its first WCHA Final Face Off Title Game since 2001. Minnesota outshot Ohio State in this one, 41-28. Gopher goaltender Sydney Scobee stopped 24 of the 28 shots she faced. Buckeye backstop Andrea Braendli stopped 38 of the 41 shots she faced. The Buckeyes will face Wisconsin tomorrow at 3:00 pm EST for the WCHA Final Face Off Title. Tomorrow night at 9:00 pm EST, Ohio State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin will find out who they will face in the NCAA Tournament. NCAA.com will have the selection show live tomorrow night.
