Makes sense, I don't disagree obviously, at the very least they seem to have changed course in the short term.

Yeah, and no one campaigns on the gas tax in the presidential race, they campaign on income taxes

So the O got 70M votes in '08. He got about 66M in '12. So clearly a bunch of people took a flier on him after the epic failure (Iraq, Great Recession) of the W Presidency. Then 4 years later they stepped off. Hillary also won about 66M votes.

McCain hit a low of about 59M in 08 (indicating about 3M or so party switches from Bush II's 62M in '04). Romney got back to 62M in '12 and then Trump hit 63M in '16.

So two things happened in 2012. Republicans came back home to Romney getting him back to their usual level of votes. Dems stuck with Obama for his re-election at similar turnout levels which surprised some pundits and pollsters (Gallup, most notably).

In 2016, two new things happened. A couple million of Obama '12 voters were reluctant far lefties who upset with Sanders losing the primary went out and voted FOR Trump, thus allowing him to increase his margin vs Romney in '12 and offsetting the natural decline in the GOP base as they die off. On the flip side, while Clinton should have increased the 66M Obama levels due to new voters aging into the voting pool, too many regular Dem voters stayed home.

In short, math is your friend mookie! Maybe you believe everything you read in the media, but I'm skeptical of all these people claiming they were loyal Obama voters who are now full on Trump Humpers. The cynic in me can't help but wonder if...oh I don't know...this is a coordinated effort perhaps?

Sic, yeah. mookie is just tweaking everybody's nose. I've probably read 500 political posts from mookie and I haven't the slightest idea where he really stands on anything, except that he has some sort of 2000-year view where this too shall pass, which connotes if not conservatism then at least the privilege to wait things out in the comfort of the status quo. People under threat are not non-commital.

I disagree there aren't previous Trump voters that want to vote for a Dem in 2020 because I know a few of them. With that I think it's a bad idea for Warren to turn down an opportunity to appear on FNC and to additionally badmouth any of their viewers.

May be. May be. But when are we finally going to bust the cult up? Cause that's what Fox News and Republicans are, a cult hell bent on destroying America.

This is complete and utter nonsense. I'm surprised how dumb it is. Even for you.

We lost black votes because Hillary was white. We didn't have a significant black candidate so that couldn't be helped.

We lost Rust Belt votes because Hillary was hated by the remainder of the old Democratic union coalition for a variety of reasons. The sexist portion of that we couldn't and shouldn't help -- uneducated whites have been falling more and more under the fascist spell and we shouldn't chase those votes anyway. They can go f-ck themselves. The Hillary portion of it -- nominating a dreadful candidate with the charisma of a cloud of anthrax -- we could have helped. Had the main challenger been anyone but Sanders, who had his own severe weaknesses, we would have. Another Obama would have repeated 2008 both in the primaries and the general. We just didn't have that arrow in the quiver.

Kill 'em with kindness. On the surface that sounds naive because in reality the Dems need to campaign with a message that Trump is bad for America. But you're not going to appeal to a select many by repeating Hillary's, "deplorable" bungle. This doesn't mean going on Fox and kissing anyone's *** either. You also don't need to bother with Russia, collusion, corruption, etc. Enough of them don't care and it sounds too hysterical. Explain without hyperbole and over exuberance what you stand for, and detail which specific Trump policies are hurting the middle class. A lot of people didn't vote for Trump as we already know, they voted against Hillary. Don't give them that excuse this time.

Pretty much. When asked say Dump is a menace, then pivot to your message -- above all, control the media cycle. Force the media to cover real events by continually evoking the suffering Dump is causing by talking about your constructive plans to handle those same problems that he is ignoring. Let Dump cry in his baby chair.

Never, ever insult a voter by calling him on his stupidity. Remember: the majority of your own voters are stupid, too.

Don't coddle trolls and Nazis, but when the press in their infinite mendacity tries to pry a bon mot about Flyover F-ckwittery from you, counter with the cliche "every American no matter where they live has the same concerns blah blah blah jobs medical costs food on the table The Children Are The Future blah blah bah. Never, ever get suckered into a "basket of deplorables" or "clutching their guns and Bibles" mistake. Deprive that of its oxygen.

We can all help by doing the same thing.

That's fine but it doesn't work either. It pretty much ruined Obama's Presidency. 45 years and counting.

Exactly. Russia is a losing proposition. Anyone who runs on that or impeachment is going to lose. I’d be willing to bet there would be an inverse exponential relationship between the times a candidate mentions collusion, Russia, or Mueller and the performance in the election.

“It’s the economy stupid” is the best advice you can give to any candidate. Carville’s quip should be renamed Carville’s Law.

Run on getting the blue collar worker an improved life. They are the real silent majority. They don’t much care for politics and don’t even tune in until after the conventions. That vast majority of people don’t care about detailed policy like Warren or Yang have. They don’t care about social politics. They care about having a goddam chicken in every pot and a cap in every ass car in every garage. But more specifically their pot and their garage.

Someone on POTUS yesterday said a GOP strategist told hom the winning message for the Democratic nominee is “I swear to god you won’t hear about me more than once a week” or something to that effect.
