That's great news for them and much needed. They had incomplete lines with only 18 players (missing one F, one D and had no extra skater). They also had 5 seniors on that roster, so assuming all 13 players with eligibility return if you add 15 freshmen they end up with 28 players, which will leave them with healthy scratches (if everyone stays and everyone is healthy). Maybe they can make the NEWHL a little more competitive than it's been.

Coach Venezia also doing his "thing" at Castleton: 6 commits and counting. About time someone starts rebuilding that team. Glad they hired someone who knows talent and can recruit.

            More MIAC:

            St. Bens -

Emily Lemker - F - Duluth Marshall HS

            Augsburg -

            Jenna Gerold - F - Farmington HS
Katie Flynn - F - East Ridge HS
Mara McClain - G - Bloomington Jefferson HS

            St. Kates -

            Laura Denchfield - F - Osseo HS
Lindsay Hays - F - Mankato West HS
            Nicole Maddox - F Dakotah HS/Michigan
Elizabeth Patton - D - Duluth Marshall HS

            Concordia is shrouded in Mystery
Bethel has a few more unannounced at this point
St. Olaf has a new coach and is always late to announce
St. Mary's needs a new coach and some of the names they're looking at are MIAC names, which might upset some other recruiting
St. Thomas might not even play at D3 level, if some people at the school get their way, to say they're in limbo would not be overselling it.

Everything I read says they're in the MIAC for 19-20 and 20-21, and if they're going to play as a D2 that's eligible for the D1 women's championship their recruiting might actually improve (see RIT women's hockey in the early 2000s).

If St. Mary's poaches a coach within the MIAC, are we still far enough from the school year some recruits might change enrollment?

                Re: 2019-20 DIII Recruits

Story in the StarTribune yesterday about new AD at UST says they're going to keep playing hockey, but indications hint at the school wanting to try going D1, which they'll want to get started on ASAP so they can put the long waiting period behind them. Then in another story, the new commissioner of the WCHA hinted at UST Women joining that conference. No clue as to where the men would play, but the St. Thomas arena would work for Women's hockey, at least temporarily. And it's pretty easy to see UST becoming a national power fairly quickly - good education, excellent facilities, great location, it would be very attractive for Minnesota kids.

And I think students have to be enrolled by July to most schools - not sure about St. Mary's.

Here is an article that mentions the St. Thomas situation:

                  https://www.therinklive.com/2019/06/...-commissioner/

Also mentioned is Northern Michigan as a possible W-WCHA future member.

                    From that article:

Flowers said she had met with the NMU president on Monday, and said no conversations about UST have been held yet.
No conversations have been had because it would be about a decade before St. Thomas could be a D1 program. They would have to be a full DII program, having gone through that reclassification, and then reclassify from DII to D1.

EDIT: just listened to the press conference. St. Thomas was brought up by a member of the press, and all Flowers said was that it was her first week on the job and she hasn't had that conversation with anyone, but she knows it's a hot topic in the Twin Cities. She did note that she has a good relationship with their AD.

There is no DII national championship, so DII teams can play up to DI in hockey as long as they meet the scheduling requirements, and joining a reputable DI hockey conference would work to ensure that. I think the whole situation is pathetic.

Correct - the other D2 schools in Minnesota play hockey at the D1 level.

The biggest issue is timing, I think. They have plenty of deep-pocket boosters to get the school started into D2 (eventually D1) - it's probably hockey that's giving them one of the hard things to think about. I think they will be wildly successful at D2 (and maybe D1). But... the St. Thomas/St. John's football game likely would go away, which is causing emotional (and possibly financial) distress.

I think hockey at St. Thomas (assuming the men can find somewhere to play) will be HUGE. Would you rather go to St. Thomas or Bemidji or Mankato? There's no comparison.

                          Re: 2019-20 DIII Recruits

Suffolk is leaving the GNAC to rejoin the CCC as a full member starting the 20-21 school year.

There's no word yet if Suffolk women's hockey will leave the NEHC to join the other CCC schools that play women's hockey in the Colonial Hockey Conference. With the departure of Morrisville and Canton, all of the CHC members are full members of the CCC except Becker, who is an associate member for men's hockey and football.

There's also member Western New England, who had a posting up for an inaugural women's ice hockey coach only for it to come down and no mention of a new program there appearing on their athletics site. The WNE men play at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, a three-sheet facility also used by numerous other programs.

In addition to WNEU, Curry and Wentworth play men's hockey but not women's hockey at the NCAA level. The Wentworth men play at the Allied Veterans Memorial Rink in Everett which is home to the Boston Shamrocks, Everett HS in addition to Wentworth. Curry plays at a state-owned rink that they hold the management contract for. Curry also has had a IWCHL team since 2015.

Ideally for the current CHC members, Suffolk moves over and one of the three CCC schools with a men's program starts a women's program, giving them 7 schools before their grace period would end, keeping their autobid to the tourney. They could remain the independent CHC or become the CCC Women.

In lighter news, the DIII NCAA committee was scootering around some town yesterday:
