Hesitant to wade in here, but no one else has jumped in yet, so here goes …

Hate it. The way I see it, it just creates more opportunity for the "haves" to expand their recruiting efforts to emerging players who may have snuck in "under the radar" with lesser programs. And it would make the "have nots" have to work all that much harder not only to coach their guys up, but then to convince them to stay when the big boys start to hover around.

Not to be naïve here, I'm sure these approaches already happen now on the QT … but at least there's the disincentive not to lose that full year of eligibility keeping some players where they are. Imagine if the BvR's of the world get a freebie now right from the start, and don't have to wait until certain restrictive circumstances later in their careers to move around freely? Good luck trying to get your program out of the muck, if you're one of those also-rans.

For me, it would be just one less reason to follow college sports. There I go, being naïve again …

Actually I thought of you and Walshy when I was reading the article. There's a retro financial aid joke in there somewhere...

      • I would tend to agree - I’m all for giving the SA all the freedom and flexibility afforded the general student population, but there is no doubt this rule is going to be exploited and ruined by the ‘adults’ in the room...

Programs already recruit off the rosters of lesser programs - especially in sports with a one time transfer exception - with what’s at $take in football and basketball (and even hockey) that’s only going to increase exponentially with this rule.

There should be corresponding legislation introduced to severely punish coaches caught poaching from other college rosters...

There should be corresponding "legislation" that forces the poaching school to reimburse scholarship $$ to the poached school. That would slow the flow...until college is totally free...which will set up a whole new, fun dynamic...

The US NTDP Evaluation Camp Roster was announced today - and there is a 2004 defenseman from Manchester, NH named Kaden Muir on the list. Interestingly enough, former UNH defenseman Bryan Muir spent his 2004 season playing for the Manchester Monarchs. I'm very hopeful Kaden is Bryan's son, because with Morrow heading to UND, having another highly regarded, UNH legacy to dream on only to see him end up somewhere else will fill a nice void in my life...

It would be nice to get a natural/elite recruiter and try to land him instead, but beggars can't be choosers...

                                Mike and Watcher

It seems we have a solid defensive core, and we should not underestimate our forwards. We have 3 bulls for the first time in a long time on offense. I believe we will see different lines than we would predict. Watcher, Your predictions are always pretty good and all of college hockey now has way too many players on the roster. It was 23-24 in the 90's and early 2000's and most teams are pushing up towards 28-30. I am optimistic for the future. Maybe more Europeans might help the long term cause. We almost always lost out to BC and BU, now Northeastern, Providence and Lowell seem to get the players we used to get. I have confidence in our coaching staff and they recruiting pretty well over the past few years.

                                Enjoy the off season!
