    Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2018-19

I noticed on a link in a post by turk on the last thread that Herrman won a community service award. Bendorf won his team and league award for service also. At least we will have competition for something in the future.

Let’s hope Leo Durocher was wrong.

That’s because size alone isn’t enough. It looked simple for Kerr and Esposito, but the hand/eye coordination required to tip a high-speed shot or pick up a loose puck in a tangle of legs is quite extraordinary. Add to that a defenseman, who has spent his entire life clearing the area above the crease, not occupying it, and it was a long shot for Luke to make it work. Top it off with a team and scheme that struggled to get pucks on net and it was probably doomed to failure.

Would it work with Burke or any other big guy we could find? Probably not (as I said, the game has changed and Esposito/Kerr were unique talents even if they weren’t particularly great athletes) but when I remember the teams of my youth picking up lots of “cheap”, defense demoralizing goals, I understand why a desperate Seth gave it a shot.

            Tuesday’s game
            Babichuk schedule http://www.ajhl.ca/schedule/schedule__results.html

I will post the summary whenever. Going by last season, the AJHL did not post box scores for preseason games, only the final scores. There will probably be tweets which I will eventually post if relevant.

As expected, the AJHL is only posting scores for preseason games. (See link in the previous post.) Spruce Grove did not tweet its lineup, although Grande Prairie did tweet theirs. Also no assists or penalties were tweeted by the SGS.

There is however the possibility that a boy can play bigger than his listed size (and numerous examples that we all have seen of boys who just do not play up to their given size).
Maybe a kid can identify as an acceptable size?

These kids go to college because there's the built-in time to bulk up, something which you don't get in the aggressive juniors schedule. Look at a kid like Rabbani, who was only 5'10, but the muscle and bulk stoked fear in the opposition (IIRC one Sioux player can attest). Sure, height makes the bulk easier, but when you have that low center of gravity, you really become an immovable force. When strength is fairly close then leverage becomes much more important, and if Coach Smith is going for those sorts of bruisers, I'm perfectly fine with it.

They can bulk up, but college doesn't make them taller.

The years the men's recruits are listed as committed for are not necessarily accurate.
The dates on which some of the women are listed as committing on may be considerably after the actual dates.
I am assuming that Neutral Zone records their Star ratings as public because they tweet them with committals.

I might as well post this highlight video for yesterday's Spruce Grove game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeYr9TeML6k. Babichuk isn't mentioned; there are no name plates on their uniforms; and I don't know CB's number; so I am better off not guessing which, if any, is CB.

Brandon Pirri: Turk would give it to Jagr. That's awesome! Jagr's untouchable. And he would give it to Jagr.

After watching the Tweet I just Posted it looks like CB is wearing #2.

It's good to see that he was one of the first to be profiled and was given a low number. That indicates to me that they expect him to be a key player.

                              Oops!

                                Thursday’s game
                                Babichuk schedule http://www.ajhl.ca/schedule/schedule__results.html

I will post the summary whenever. As on Tuesday, only the final score will most likely be posted by the AJH:. There will probably be tweets which I will eventually post if relevant.
