I basically had to tell my boss's boss to fuk off today.

I've done everything I can to get a new reactor system checked out. There are a million decisions and with illnesses, prioritization, workloads, etc., we've taken a little longer to get this project done. Especially frustrating is he didn't tell me how much of a priority this system was back in November when I had the project transferred to me. Had I known then, I wouldn't have let people self-prioritize what they were working on like a normal not-d--ckhead kind of person. But alas, here we are, first week in February and he wants to know why we can't check things out until March.

Well, Bossman, the system we're tying into already has runs in weeks 1, 3, and 5. I asked to move them and the factory told me to **** off. In week 2, my programming team is unavailable because they're working on other "high priority" projects. In week 4, we traded some people around and we can get basic checkout done. But it still needs to be tested. So we have to look at week 6, which is essentially the only week open for the key person running checkout.

And yes, I asked about weekends. But we have families and other obligations so we can't work every weekend and I'm not going to tell them to work on the weekends because A) I'm not their boss. B) Neither are you. C) We're all worked to the bone right now. We don't have 80 hours in a week and everything is apparently a high priority because management doesn't hire enough resources to staff our high priority projects appropriately. (Oh and did I mention we have the looming threat of more layoffs?)

So **** off. I did the best I could. Don't ask me for creativity in trying to find a solution. There isn't one. Not unless you want to change what constitutes a high priority or hire more resources.

I wish you were the SW manager for my division. Too many of them are so conflict averse they tell management anything to get them out of the room, and then when the bill comes due all they can do is work their team to death.

It wouldn't be so irksome if executive management (and ownership) didn't deliberately exploit it. The irony is a sane and humane culture is far more productive, but the gorillas in suits will never be able to wrap their brute force brains around that. They still think they're out on the playing fields of Eton (or Groton).

I didn’t, I was still in shock and making a joke. I imagine some people above me got the call, because everything is now public record.

I've had the Minnesota DNR show up at a friend's cabin when a were there. My truck matched the description of one being used by someone hunting deer out of season. They looked like they were extras from a Zero Dark Thirty set. Serious. Business.

One doesn't have to look far to have interactions with various law enforcement on a "serious" level.

Several colleagues from the baseball community had to deal with the FBI when underage pornogrophy was found on a local assignors computer. Basically anyone who had a semi-direct relationship with the guy got asked questions during the initial investigation with one having serious involvement because of he was officially a business partner and was tied in because of that (but had absolutely nothing to do with the crime in question).

I’ve had those (for friends being considered for FBI jobs), but they were always scheduled and I had a heads up. Next time I’m at a computer and not on my phone I’ll tell my FBI/DEA surprise visit.

Not to the same level, but my entire department is on a Legal Hold status due to the activities of the customers of another department we support. No email I delete is ever actually deleted, not even those between me and my wife regarding weekend plans.

IT Depts that institute changes with directions that are non-functional GRIND MY GEARS!

The U I work for decided to go to 2 step authentication with less than a week warning. I can get my email on my laptop after they sent me a code but
-none of the things it said I should click popped up.
-it locked my phone out and none of the solutions they told me to try work.
-call IT and the guy says I need to install another app on my phone because pushing it thru the way they did isn't right.
-The IT guy for our dept set it up. I physically gave him my phone and this kid working the desk says he was wrong to do it that way.
- the kid isn't really listening to what I am telling him. He doesn't want to problem solve, has no idea why it is failing and I am pretty sure he doesn't understand what is failing because he keeps saying stuff that isn't what I am telling him

I swear IT people complicate things and f them up so they can have a job fixing up the mess they make. I already had a password. It worked. just fine. If they think the 2 step is going to save them but it automatically defaults to letting me in without asking then pffft.
(If this were the first time.... they make a cf every time they try to do anything. Not sure just how competent they are to be messing with things)
Technology is SATAN and I don't have time for this.

We had to to the same thing. Luckily it took about 5 minutes to complete it each for my laptop and work phone.
