I am driving for Door Dash tonight. And while I want to hope for the best, I know people are going to be cheap, even during a time like this.

I feel like a jerk when saying this, but my wife grinds my gears when she’s sick. I think she was overly coddled as a kid and it shows up when she’s sick (not COVID-19). I hate having people take care of me when I’m ill, so this is all new and frustrating to me.

I get this. My family was of the opinion that unless you were dying then too bad- Suck it up Blanche. I remember being so sick I was barely able to be upright and making breakfast for the family because my father thought I was 'just making excuses'. mr les grew up with a chronically ill Mum who functioned no matter what. His Grandmother was always complaining and telling people they needed to take care of her. It baffled me.

Unless I'm on my deathbed, I go to work. That's how it was in my household (although, to be fair, my family rarely got sick).

I'm not doing that motto anymore, but I also haven't had to worry about it, either.

I’m hoping that becomes a new normal for everyone.

This has thoroughly scared the everliving **** out of me. I told my wife I hope this doesn’t turn me into an agoraphobic if this stretches into 6-12 months instead of weeks.

Silver living. Better PPE and pandemic prep. Sick leave. Better hand washing. Better sick leave. Better pay for “low level” workers. No more bailouts. Sick leave.

That’s not ever been my motto.

I’m just saying that I’ll make my own meals, or get my own water/whatever unless it’s already been offered to me. When I’m sick, I feel lousy and just want to be left alone to wallow in my own crapulance. My wife wants someone around who will help her.

I guess what I was referring to, is les' comment of "Suck it up, Blanche."

DoorDash is considered "essential," right? And it's not just old people being cheap. For 3 hours today, I should have made more than $40.

Part of the deal is that people are looking at their budgets closer than ever now. When doing that, tipping is always going to be one of the first cuts made. Add in that it's a service where tipping isn't engrained into the culture like servers at a sit-down restaurant and you'll get unsavory results. I'll bet that many people are using the service are newer users and are simply ignorant of the need for tips.

Also today, I tried to get into the social security website because I misplaced my card. Tried my Yahoo and GMail accounts to get my username and password, and I can't. Tried to set up a new account with my DU email, and an account already exists with that information. Now access is suspended for 24 hours.

I dont know about Doordash specifically but most of these types of services suggest tip levels before checkout. I know Amazon and Instacart do. (Amazon $5, Instacart %5 but show totals for 5, 10, 15...etc) I overtipped when I got groceries and will again.

I can’t even get slots to get grocery delivery or pickup so I just go into the stores

I ordered on Wednesday (the store uses Instacart to fulfill delivery). No pickup spots, but delivery on Monday. They need to expand their calendars. It only let me select in the next 2-3 days. If people KNOW they have to wait for a week, they'll plan that way.
