The final National Letter of Intent for Penn State has been signed by Mikayla Lantto, a forward from Palmer, Alaska.

It feels weird to be saying this on a Monday, but Penn State is back in action tomorrow and Wednesday against CHA opponent RIT at Pegula Ice Arena. On paper, you couldn't ask for a closer matchup of teams, so I guess the intangibles will play a part in this series.

Penn State just played an away series Friday and Saturday, and RIT last played on Friday, so it's a quick turnaround for both teams, with the difference being Penn State having played a second game this past weekend.

Here's how they match up on paper:

Penn State (5-7-2) vs RIT (3-6-4)

      Goals per game
      Penn State 2.3 - RIT 2.2

      Shots per game
      Penn State 27.1 - RIT 27.3

      Power play conversion
      Penn State .149 - RIT .182

      Power play goals
      Penn State 7 - RIT 8

      Penalties per game
      Penn State 3.4 - RIT 4.2

      Faceoff percentage
      Penn State .508 - RIT .508

Tuesday's game is at 6:00 (Eastern) with free video here:

Wednesday's game is at 3:00 (Eastern) with free video here:

All good information. My take until recently ... Penn State easily wins, but then there was that shocking result of RIT over Syracuse 6-4. Syracuse took it to Penn State earlier this season. Now, I do not think it will be easy at all. RIT has lots of similarities to RPI, with both having tremendous goalies.

I have the same feeling going into it - winnable, but who knows? Both teams have played a few common opponents, and it went like this:

Ryerson -- Penn State won 4-0, and RIT tied 3-3 in OT
Union -- Penn State swept Union 3-1 and 3-2, RIT lost 3-2 and tied 1-1 in OT
Syracuse -- Penn State lost 1-0 and 5-2, and RIT won 6-4
RPI -- Penn State won 4-0 and tied 1-1 in OT, and RIT lost 3-2 and tied 1-1 in OT

I'm not even going to try calling this series. Penn State has only won once at home this season, and they match up too closely on paper, so it's anyone's series to win.

Penn State junior goalie Jenna Brenneman has been named the CHA Goalie of the Week, and freshman defenseman Izzy Heminger was named the CHA Rookie of the Week:

She’s a good one. Power forward. Great kid (not mine for all the wise guys).

Since you seem that you know her or of her, did she attend any of the USA hockey camps?

                  She did not. Late bloomer.

Just glad to see Dean Jackson's only recruit Uihleen was not deep sixed. She could have gone to many D One schools, but once you verbal commit and it is not honored, it is so hard to find a spot as a senior.

Penn State beat RIT 3-0 tonight, and it was never close. Penn State led in shots on goal 51-23 and never took their foot off the gas. They haven't had that many shots on goal since 2013. RIT had some chances, but not many, and junior goalie Jenna Brenneman stood tall, earning her second shutout in three games.

Penn State took an uncharacteristic five penalties, but their penalty kill was on point and stopped all of RIT's power play chances. Likewise, RIT's penalty kill shut out Penn State's four power play chances, so give them credit for that. Otherwise, the game was really all Penn State.

Penn State beat RIT 2-1 tonight to earn the series sweep, and get some much needed conference points. It was more of the same, with Penn State on the gas, especially in the second and third periods. RIT actually outshot Penn State in the first period, 9-7, but didn't really get any good chances again until late in the third. Jenna Brenneman has now given up only two goals in the last four games.

Team is at .500. State needs a split at RMU to go in at the .500 mark at the halfway point of the season.

High Point so far: Handing Providence for what I think is their only loss.

Low Point: Getting smoked by Syracuse for two at home. Syracuse lost to RIT 6-4.

                            Cautiously optimistic!

Zep have a great Thanksgiving. Keep on posting all your links.

Getting swept by Syracuse was probably the low point for me, too. That series was where we were going to get a good read on where Penn State was, and we got that, and it wasn't a good read. There's still a lot of hockey to play, though, so other teams better not get too comfortable. Syracuse also always seems to be the last team Penn State faces in the CHA tournament before the ride home, so getting their number would be a good thing.

The high point for me was Penn State beating then-#5 Colgate in game two of a series where they dressed the same 12 players for both games. Penn State should have been gassed halfway through game one, and would have been more than justified if they had nothing at all left for game two, and the same 12 players came out and beat #5 Colgate in game two...at Colgate. That's impressive.

I know this series sweep against RIT comes with the "yeah, but it's RIT" notation, but they're not the same RIT they were last year, or the last few years, really. Scoring four late unanswered goals against Syracuse says something about them. RIT's Terra Lanteigne stood on her head against Penn State, with 86 saves for the series, too. Yes, it's RIT, but I thought Penn State looked better overall against them than any other team so far this season.

I share your cautious optimism, for sure. Have a great Thanksgiving, and feel free to freeze any leftovers and overnight them to me...thanks in advance!

Kampresal needs six wins to get to 350 career wins. That's an impressive total.
