        Uh, Puerto Rico would not benefit by that. It's not an island that is flat and broad like Florida or Houston is. It's a very mountainous island, where there are a lot of dips and holes and rivers where water all goes to at the same time. And it's also very exposed, so that it's hardly can break up the winds- which end up being far more powerful at +4000ft (the highest point in Puerto Rico is 4390 ft).

        A lot of the east coast is very much like that, too- where dykes and whatnot would have no effect at all.

        What we should actually focus on is floodwater flow. And not obstruct that, like in Houston.

          Fair enough. Never said the solutions had to be the same. Just that we are stupid which is beyond dispute at this point.

            I also don't think we are stupid, as we can easily come up with solutions that work. Ok, we are not stupid on a technical front. Where we are stupid is being so focused on money, profits, and no taxes that kills us.

            Out tax money was the only money that ever sent a man to the moon and back. That will never happen again, as people don't care what they are getting with their tax money, other than the notion that money is being taken from them. And to MANY- that money is going to benefit people who they don't like. That's why we will never see Houston have sensible growth plans, nor New Orleans get an super effective dyke system, nor Puerto Rico to get a robust power system

              Sure. We're not stupid. People make huge profits and leave after the resource is exhausted a wasteland. And in the case of flooding, we privatize the profits (rebuilding) and socialize the losses. But, that's not stupid. It's just the right people, making the right money, at the right time.

                That's greed driving the bus, not stupidity. Greed convincing people that money is more important than longevity. There's a difference.

                    Just want to point out that calling people stupid for the sake of being angry isn't getting us anywhere.

                    You'll get farther attacking greed and greedy people than calling people who side with them stupid. Few people like to accept insults.

                      Being rational isn't getting us anywhere either. This country is headed down the toilet bowl and nothing is going to stop it. Greed comes to roost eventually. Kudos to the US for lasting as long as it did.

                          I watched Zimmern try to choke down some TCM medicinal tea once. After throwing it up into the harbor, he promptly went to the nearest good restaurant and pigged out. Only to be "busted" by the TCM doctor. I love that guy.

                            Nope. I vote for the only party that has a shot in correcting. I don't believe they will ever get the power they need to accomplish it, and if they do I have no faith that power won't corrupt them as well.

                              They have for quite a while. If it makes you feel better, it is political, not scientific. I do not have the time to go into it now in great detail but some high ups in the WHO are very deep into TCM. Not to mention it really ****es off the Chinese government to be critical of TCM.
