He also played a game in the SHL which is a pro league? I wonder if he will have to sit out some games before he can play?

Lowell Sun article about the new commit, also listing a few of the players coming in.

Korencik, Lee, Berglund, Chambers, Brown and Neaton all named. There's 6, and Barry's article says 9 in total. I would assume Kaiser, Schulting and Wells as the other three.

Is anyone else having trouble with the link? I get a page that says "This site is not secure". I copied the article below.

River Hawks land a top Slovakian defenseman
          Barry Scanlon

LOWELL — The UMass Lowell hockey program has landed a commitment from a promising player who hails from Slovakia.
Marek Korencik, a 6-foot-3, 201-pound defenseman, visited campus a couple of weeks ago and will play for the 2019-20 River Hawks.
Korencik, who has played the last four seasons in Sweden, represented Slovakia at the World Junior Championships this past winter in Victoria, British Columbia.
In Slovakia's opener, he scored the lone goal in his country's 2-1 loss to the United States. He scored late in the second period after jumping into the rush and sending a wrist shot into the cage.
"It was a good experience for him," Bazin said. "He didn't look out of place. It's a tough tournament."
Korencik is believed to be the first UMass Lowell player or recruit to play in a World Junior Championship since Ron Hainsey skated for the United States in 2001.
"He's had an opportunity to represent his country a few times," Bazin said. "He's a responsible two-way defenseman. He makes a good first pass and he defends fairly well."
Bazin said Korencik is also adept at jumping into the play offensively.
The 19-year-old played for Lulea in Sweden's top junior league this past season. He scored six goals and 20 points in 42 regular-season games, then picked up an assist in three playoff games.
"He's really, really mature," Bazin said.
He was named a team captain this past season, a rare occurence for a foreign-born player.

          "That's pretty special," Bazin said.
Bazin and his staff began looking for a defenseman for next season when sophomore Croix Evingson announced after the season he was transferring.
Korencik joins a talented incoming freshman class.
Three forwards, Andre Lee, Carl Berglund and Brian Chambers, led Sioux Falls to a three-game sweep of Chicago for the United States Hockey League title. Goaltender Logan Neaton guided Prince George to the championship game of the Royal Bank Cup, Canada's national Junior A hockey championship, with a sparkling performance.
And forward Matt Brown scored 30 regular-season goals in the USHL and was named a second-team league all-star. Brown led the USHL in shorthanded goals with seven. In total, nine new River Hawks are headed to the Tsongas Center.
As for Korencik, the future River Hawk was mighty impressed by a visit to a famous Lowell landmark, the Owl Diner, during his recent stop in Lowell.

            This is not completely true.

No RiverHawk or recruit has played in the top-level World Juniors since Hainsey did. However, France was relegated after finishing 10th in 2002, and Guillaume LeClerc represented them in the Division 1A World Juniors in 2013 and the Division 1B World Juniors in 2014, 2015, and 2016. (They've since been promoted back to Divsion 1A).

Don't know if we missed this, but Scout Truman named to the AJHL South Division All-Rookie team.

Also, Neutral Zone put up an article today for the Mass Festival Final 40 Tournament. The premise was "With over 30 years of playing at the college, pro-level and coaching Bantams to NCAA to Pro, we decided to pick the team we would like to coach. We obviously would win but the group would be fun to coach and also fun to watch develop. Our team was picked only based on those two days."

The list included 3 forwards and 2 dmen for each of the '04s, 03s and 02s from the group of players that's hoping to go to the National Camp. Lowell commit Owen Fowler was listed in the '02 group.

Owen Fowler (F, L, Governor’s, 2002)-Owen is the most skilled player on this team. He is electric with the puck. Fast, elusive and can break down defenders in lots of ways. He is great on the rush. The Umass-Lowell commit will help Team NZ Mass in the transition game. His first step and speed are obvious. What isn’t as obvious is how hard he fights for pucks and how well he can maintain possession through contact. He also showed some real bite. Can really lay opponents out, especially in open ice. We loved it as a fast player with a physical element is tough to play against. He made team NZ on his snarl, compete, jam and physicallity. He was there to go to Buffalo. While he may very well get to National Camp, when he gets back we want him on Team NZ Mass.
There was another '02 who's uncommitted but from Billerica, named Matthew Livingston. Local kid, defenseman plays for Billerica High.

Andranik Armstrong (currently with Brooks, AJHL) was picked in the 8th round of the NAHL draft by Minot yesterday.

Northeast Generals took a shot on Ben Meehan in the 15th round. He's most likely going to be in the USHL next year though.

When Andranik committed NZ had him rated at 4 stars. Have they since dropped his rating?

I saw this tweet about Ben Meehan who was at the Cedar Rapids (USHL) camp.

Another player from the North Bay Trappers midget program who also has Sioux Falls connections.

Drafted 2019, 3 #48 overall by North Bay Battalion in the OHL U18 Priority Selection
Drafted 2019, 10 #151 overall by Sioux Falls Stampede in the USHL Entry Draft

This looks like another high quality recruit. I like what Coach Pagliero is doing.

A solid 200 foot game, he supports his defenders down low well and transitions to offense quickly. Not the most creative offensive player you will see but did produce a number of goals this season with a good net presence and willingness to go to the net.
