In Barry's defense, I suppose you could argue that despite the issues with Hockey, as a group, the 23 sports at UW have done fairly well overall during his tenure. Or at the very least, UW athletics is generating a lot of money, ranking #2 in the nation in revenue at over $100 million.
    Thank you for the reply.

The reason for the talent in the west? Because MN didn't rely on Canada.

GWH, I think I'm missing some context here.
If you want to be a BADGER, just come along with me

        BRING BACK PAT RICHTER!!!

At his graduation ceremony from the U of Minnesota, my cousin got a keychain. When asked what UW gave her for graduation, my sister said, "A degree from a University that matters."

Canned music is a pathetic waste of your time.

Well, I figured that Badger/Gopher fans would be more than happy to call them the *** Hawks.

Except I'm not sure you fully understand the crude and barbaric nature of us Nodaks, gwh. We are like the Mongol Horde and will probably embrace being called *** Hawks.

Not to say we are not also sophisticated and charming in every way. Just complex, I guess.

Oh, I understand the Nodaks, my wife is one of them. Buying her a jersey as a gift a decade ago shaved at least 5 years off of my life due to the strain that it put on my heart when I bought it.

At one time, I suppose you saw Heatley jerseys in Atlanta.

I have actually seen some here in recent memory. People here still love (and miss) the Thrashers.

I had a similar experience.....my son is collecting former UW player NHL jerseys. He wants a Heatley for Christmas. I can't buy a Senators jersey due to the fact he has a Turris jersey and he doesn't want duplicate teams. I could have bought a Heatley Thrashers jersey on ebay months ago, but I stupidly did not pull the trigger knowing how rare that is due to wanting to discuss with wifeypooh first. I ended up buying a Heatley/rodentsota jersey on ebay. I feel really dirty about it and I will not allow him to wear it in my presence. I know he'll like it because I floated the idea to him months ago and was shocked when did not just immediately call me insane by even suggesting he own anything with the name rodentsota on it. I was shocked by that seeing I thought I had done a good job brainwashing er, teaching him the ways of the world.

The Wild and the Gophers are unrelated! For starters, Wisconsin is largely in the Wild's market. Second...it's an NHL team! Tons of Wild fans are Wisconsin Badgers fans as well, and vice versa. (The Wild became my second favorite NHL team since I moved here for school, because of that.) Hatred of the gophers (indicated by "rodentsota") shouldn't affect how UW fans see the Wild...especially with a Badger's name on the back of the jersey. Duke fans aren't going to hate the Carolina Panthers because of the name "Carolina" and the powder blue. They'll only hate the Panthers if they're already a fan of a rival NFC South team.

Of course, I don't know what your NHL allegiances are, so you may have other reasons to hate them.

                        Oh DC...

We welcome you and others from coast to coast and around the world with open arms to our Great University to study and learn the way of the Badger, and thenceforth to return beyond our borders to share the light of the Badger with all those less fortunate. Though you are not one of us by birth, through your meticulous study and effort, you are to become one with us in Spirit.

That is in all ways but one.

And that is good, for that one way is our burden to bear from birth until death. And bear it we shall, for we are the protectors locked in eternal struggle with the great shadow at whose heart lies an evil darker than the blackest cave and more obscene than German porn. You see, we are born with the rot and filth and stench wafting in from our Western border and though many have tried, others cannot know all of what it is truly like to be Wisconsinites.

You see,for example, we know it's a fact that J.R.R Tolkien first conceived of Mordor while looking westward from the middle of the I-94 bridge, too terrified to take another step. It scarred him for life and he would never stop writing of the horror. We know too that Joseph Conrad wrote "Heart of Darkness" on a caffeine and benzedrine fueled Monday after a weekend excursion to Bloomington and the Mall of America.

I could go on with many many, many, many, other examples, but it is of no import. You cannot understand fully. It is ok. Enjoy your Wild Broadcast and shopping at Target. But know that it is beyond us to do likewise. It is enough for us to know that despite your naivety surrounding Minnesotans, you will take care to represent us well and never stray from the Badger path, for as it is written, so it is: Once a Badger, Always a Badger. Let's Go Red.

The opposite. Too much sun, I'd wager.

On another historical note, Grand Forks was at different times a part of Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota, but ultimately, nobody would take it.

Strange you should mention that, Wisko. As Parise is my witness, I was in a high school class room this afternoon for some volunteer stuff I do and saw a map showing that North Dakota east of the Missouri was part of the Minnesota Territory. I was so stunned I had to sit down. I'm over sixty, and I've just been told I'm adopted. Worse, my real parents were brother and sister.

                                Holy smokes, that is stunning!

Oh... I don't mean the coincidence of my post and your seeing the map today, but rather that a fellow from North Dakota has actually seen the inside of a high school classroom!
