    Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

Apparently a lot is being expected out of the Estevan Bruins for the upcoming season as these initial CJHL rankings indicate.... http://juniorhockeynetwork.com/2015/...for-2015-2016/
Brandon Pirri: Turk would give it to Jagr. That's awesome! Jagr's untouchable. And he would give it to Jagr.

OK-we are back in sync. But we almost always are anyway. I do believe in teaching skating technique and some emphasis on power skating but as you mentioned, it is rare to see the Kelly Askews not just for us in Troy, but anywhere in college hockey. Not sure what the underlying gift is but some of the boys certainly have it. of course it is not the end all attribute. As many of us recall, Askew was perhaps the quickest and also the fastest around but often could not control that speed or the have the puck handling to go with it. Also, the speed is almost useless if it is not used properly by the coaches.
Take the shortest distance to the puck and arrive in ill humor

Imports wont be a problem. One of the returning imports left camp on his own after having a disagreement from what I am told. 3 left on the roster but have heard another is skating with the team that doesnt show on the list.

I guess that is good, but I have always found the junior rankings suspect.

Over the years we have had quite a few speedy players whose speed who didn't do much with it, such as Askew whom you mentioned to Rojic a couple of years ago.

Burgess is protected by Fairbanks and Fornaris is protected by Topeka http://www.usahockey.com/page/show/9...rotected-lists. (Click Tier-II).

Edit: On the Cedar Rapids list here under Tier I, none of the four imports, which includes Hayhurst, are listed. Other teams have included some imports.

I do admit that you can see some improvement but I emphasize the word 'some'. I would classify this post as not very important but just a way for me to show that i am still alive and interested here.
I think a mix of speed and smarts is what we really all want ( i.e. Polacek). Cavosie, Murley, Pirri --- none of them ever had blazing speed, but they all sure knew how to find the twine. On the current squad, I'm excited to see how the Swede has bulked up and progressed. The kid always battles and seems to put himself in good positions to get pucks at the front of the net.
