Re: 2014-2015 Quinnipiac Bobcats: "I hear Boston is nice in April"

Was able to watch most of tonight's game ... some thoughts ...

You can tell this team has a lot of underclassmen. Some guys that, I thought, didn't have enough compete level in the corners and along the walls. I can't remember a whole lot of 50-50 battles Quinnipiac won, can probably count them on one hand. Frankly, if the Bobcats get into the dirty areas and take care of those little details a little more, they aren't in that situation late in the third period. Have to win the battles along the walls, that's where hockey is won and lost.

    C. Clifton made a hell of a wall in front of Lawrence on that second goal -- really bad job by him, the goalie had no chance to see that puck.

Like last year, this team has a lot of skill. Question is, can they put it all together by March? With the glut of freshmen and sophomores, they're going to have to learn how to play college hockey quick, because there were clearly a few situations where the young guys thought they could (a) skate through someone and (b) shy away from contact. That stuff doesn't fly, but you have to give freshmen the benefit of the doubt and let them battle through some of the issues. Ultimately, I think and hope they'll be fine. One things for sure, this class is going to be awfully good for this team. A freshman skating on the top line? Very impressive.

Can see a lot of growing pains this season but important to keep in mind that this was a very good UMass-LOL team.

Liked what I saw from Saint Landon. Conor Clifton is new David Marshall in both good/bad. Defense looked very out of sorts but think they get in most trouble when trying to shuttle the puck out of their own end. Hopefully that can be addressed by the coaches.

Student section is killer. Best in years. Hope they stick with it, even if the results aren't as good as the last two years.

I agree!! It was great to see the students in force this early in the season. Definitely gave the place more energy and created a true "home ice" feel to the Bank.

Any reason why Zach Luczyk doesn't have to sit out this season while transferring from Quinnipiac to Sacred Heart? He is already playing for them and has gotten off to a nice start for them.

We saw St Denis in street clothes in the tunnel towards the end of the 3rd. I honestly don't remember his last shift, nor do I remember him having any trouble on the ice. Hopefully it's nothing serious, and at least he made an appearance unlike that former fan named Schvatz!

I hate to admit this but I enjoy having Larson at games. He's as passionate as any Bobcat fan I've met and offers great (even if sometimes twisted) insight into the game. Of course, anyone who wears a pink women's jersey to a men's game... well, um... err... yeah.
I said to myself, "WOW Eagle is throwing punches" when I saw the Schvatz post. Then I continued and said, "WOW Eagle just gave me a compliment." Then I continued and said, "Ahh that's the Eagle I know."

So I never got to stop in here after Friday's game ... I got home and went straight to bed. I woke up the next morning and got right on the road for Saturday's game. Albeit there really isn't much to say about Friday's game. I thought they looked absolutely awful, especially at the start of the second period. I thought they looked pooped for a good chunk of the game. But they bounced back Saturday night.

Yes yes it was a tie and usually I am the kind of person that says only a win will make me happy. But this season is all about small steps and getting some confidence going. Sure giving up a late goal in the third won't help with that confidence, but like I said to a number of folks after the game, "It could have been worse."

Big Al noted that I wasn't in on the big changes for Saturday and he is right and I was wrong! Not always a bad thing. To go back to the confidence point ... I wanted Garteig in because I don't want him guessing himself so early in the year, especially when Lawrence had a chance to get some action on a Tuesday night (outside of free wings at Sidestreet). But what it must have done was give confidence to Lawrence. Now we have a bit of a competition going and I'm all for it. It'll be nice having some midweek fun tomorrow night.

I never thought the day would come Larson.

I think Garteig comes out tomorrow night and plays extremely well (albeit against UConn). Remember how well he played at the beginning of last year while everyone was asking him how he could ever fill hartzell'I shoes? Rand does. And I think that's why he did this and we'll see tomorrow if it pays off

Game day in Bridgeport. Hopefully the result will be better than our last visit there.

My guess is Gartieg goes back in net and Rand will probably stick with the same basic lineup from Saturday.

                Go Q!

Good luck tonight against Connecticut. They have always been a thorn in our side. In the last 5 years we are 2-0-3 and the last three games have been ties.

Wow, David Marshall is still playing -- good for him. Guy carved out a nice minor league career for himself. Graduated QU in 2008, so it's nice to see he's still lacing 'em up.

The defense and goaltending have been real shaky this year to start.

I mean, look at this roster. They have 17 freshmen and sophomores, just 11 juniors, seniors, and graduate students. You can't win a hockey game because you have a couple stars, you win because of your depth. And right now, QU has a whole bunch of guys that need to learn how to play college hockey.

The Bobcats will be fine, but it's not going to happen overnight.
