They could play loose and lose too right? Where's that option?

                    Name: Cassandra Poudrier

                    Hometown: Mont-Laurier, Quebec

                    Position: Defense

                    Major/College: Nutritional Sciences, CALS

                    1. What number will you be wearing this year and why did you choose it?

I will be wearing number 5 this year! I’ve worn it before, especially as a kid. My dad wore it, and I don’t know when you’re a kid you're not original (even though you think you really are) and choose your birthday's date!

                    2. What’s your favorite hockey memory to date?

My favorite hockey memory is when we beat the US at the U18 world championship in Chicago! And also when Canada won vs. the US in the last Olympics!

                    3. Do you have a favorite teammate yet? If so why?

I love everyone on the team, but I get along very well with my class, “The Freight” (that’s our nickname)! Kelly (Murray) my roommate is just awesome; I could sit on my bed all day and just listen to her stories! And Mo Mo (Morgan Richardson) and Pitts (Victoria Pittens) are going to be my roommates next because they are just that awesome!

                    4. What’s your favorite aspect of Cornell so far?

I love everything about Cornell! But mostly the campus. I love how beautiful it is out here, the campus life is just awesome!

                    5. What’s been the biggest adjustment to life at Cornell so far?

The biggest adjustment has been those hills! I think I lost weight just by riding my bike up-hill everywhere I go! You think you are good since you are going down a hill, but watch out the one you have to go up is even steeper!

                    6. Do you have any pre-game rituals?

I don’t really have any rituals; except that I must be wearing my foot socks before we go for off-ice warm up. Random, I know!

                    7. How are you enjoying that long walk from north campus to the rink?

The walks aren’t that bad, luckily my awesome roommate has the bus system figured out, with that magic app on her iphone! Still don’t know why I don’t have one yet, but yeah we’ve got it under control! Haven’t got lost, yet!

                    8. Do any of your fellow classmates have any interesting quirks or tendencies?

I haven’t noticed anything except that Kelly just loves strawberries! Even frozen ones... She just puts them in the microwave and eats them like that. Strawberries in everything!

                    9. What has your favorite team bonding activity been so far?

                    Team Camping was pretty cool!

                    10. Any other funny stories you’d like to share?

So when we lift with Coach Howley we always start on the whistle … I always seem to forget to start my set. The amount of extra sets I’ve had to do …

"Meet the Freshmen" - #21 Morgan Richardson
                        by Cornell University Women's Hockey

                        Name: Morgan Richardson

                        Hometown: Ottawa, Ontario

                        Position: Defense

                        Major/College: Biology/Arts and Science

                        1. What number will you be wearing this season, and why did you choose it?

I will be wearing #21 this season, and there’s no real significance behind why I chose it.

                        2. What’s your favorite hockey memory to date and why?

My favorite hockey memory was winning Gold at the U-18 World Championships in the Czech Republic

                        3. What’s your favorite aspect of Cornell so far?

My favorite part of Cornell so far other than my team is my housemates. Vicky, Molly and Taylor make Cornell feel like my home away from home.

                        4. What’s been the biggest adjustment to life at Cornell so far?

My teammates have made my transition to Cornell very easy. They have been incredible in helping me pick classes, and making me feel a part of the Big Red family.

                        5. Do you have any pre-game rituals?

Hmm … I am not a superstitious person, but I like to take a pre-game nap, go for a walk, and eat the same pre-game meal.

                        6. How are you enjoying that long walk from north campus to the rink?

I started off biking everywhere with my roommate Vicky, and my teammates Cass and Woodsie (Taylor Woods). After the first week the hills got the best of me and I figured out the bus system! For the early morning practices and games we all pile into J.Bieb’s Black Betty (her jeep!).

                        7. Do any of your fellow classmates have any interesting quirks or tendencies?

Everyone is quirky in their own way!

                        8. What has your favorite team bonding activity been so far?

My favorite team bonding activity so far was our team BBQ at Sheer Ice (one of the houses some of the older players live in). It was the first time I realized how funny each one of my teammates is.

                        9. Any other funny stories you’d like to share?

A funny/very embarrassing moment was when we piled out of Black Betty one early morning at the rink during our first official team practice weekend. I was wearing socks and sandals and tried to walk down the steep hill from the parking lot to the rink (avoiding the stairs of course). As if bailing in front of the Fr8’s and my teammates was not embarrassing enough, I look up and see Coach laughing from his office…great start to a fantastic weekend!

"Meet the Freshmen" - #4 Kelly Murray.

                          by Cornell University Women's Hockey

                          Name: Kelly Murray

                          Hometown: Medicine Hat, AB

                          Position: Defense

                          Major/College: Arts and sciences, Undecided

                          1. What number will you be wearing this season, and why did you choose it?

I will be wearing #4…and Bobby Orr was a pretty good hockey player

                          2. What’s your favorite hockey memory to date and why?

Winning gold at Canada Winter games in 2010 with Team Alberta

                          3. What’s your favorite aspect of Cornell so far?

The atmosphere of Cornell - and how everyone is here to succeed and achieve something in life.

                          4. What’s been the biggest adjustment to life at Cornell so far?

Doing my own laundry… just kidding. Probably just living on my own and getting used to surviving and taking care of myself.

                          5. Do you have any pre-game rituals?

When I tape my stick I don't let the blade touch the ground until I get on the ice. I also don't like to be touched when I'm in my full gear before the game starts.

                          6. How are you enjoying that long walk from north campus to the rink?

Oh man my calves were SO SORE the first week of being at Cornell from walking everywhere. But yes us “Freights” have figured our way around campus.

                          7. Do any of your fellow classmates have any interesting quirks or tendencies?

Moak's hidden sarcasm, and Pouds’ tendency to sing in English to country songs

                          8. What has your favorite team bonding activity been so far?

The camping trip! We went fishing (I caught a fish! And touched it!) and sat around the campfire and played games - so fun.

"Meet the Freshmen" - #20 Anna Zorn
                            by Cornell University Women's Hockey

                            Name: Anna Zorn

                            Hometown: Churchville, NY

                            Position: Forward

Major/College: Design and Environmental Analysis/College of Human Ecology

                            1. What number will you be wearing this season, and why did you choose it?

I am wearing number 20 this year because it was Abby Wambach’s number - she is my favorite female athlete and she is also from the same city as me. More importantly though, I chose #20 because its my 11 year old brothers summer basketball number and I wanted to be just like him!

                            2. What’s your favorite hockey memory to date and why?

This is a tough one, I've had a lot of good memories with hockey but I'd have to say the best memory was playing in the national championship game for u14's. It was the biggest crowd I'd ever played in front of and since we were the host city, we got to play in front of all our friends and family, which was really special.

                            3. What’s your favorite aspect of Cornell so far?

Trill. Hands down. The best omelets and breakfast burritos on campus and you can almost always count on seeing someone you know there, especially from our team.

                            4. What’s been the biggest adjustment to life at Cornell so far?

I guess I'd say the food? I know Cornell is ranked as having one of the best dining services in the country but I miss home cooked meals. I attempt to make meals in townhouse, but the key word there is attempt.

                            5. Do you have any pre-game rituals?

Before games I like to try and stay loose by either juggling a soccer ball or stick handling. I also ALWAYS put my equipment on in the same order; left before right for everything except elbow pads, don't ask me why. If I put something on in the wrong order than I have to take it off and do it again.

                            6. How are you enjoying that long walk from north campus to the rink?

I forced myself to figure out the bus system because there was no way I was walking from north campus to the rink everyday! I've only had one mess up on the bus so far. Lets just say Jess Brown and I got a nice 45 min walking tour of the Lansing suburbs.

                            7. Do any of your fellow classmates have any interesting quirks or tendencies?

Well this list could be long I feel so I'll only say a few haha. Jess Brown has the best dance moves by far out of all of us freshmen. Kelly Murray has some good ones too, especially to Gangnan style and you can always count on Pittens for a movie quote

                            8. What has your favorite team bonding activity been so far?

I think our camping trip was the best team-bonding event so far. It was at the very beginning of the year so it was a good time to get to know everyone and just relax. The s'mores were also a highlight.

                            9. Any other funny stories you’d like to share?

So before our first team meeting of the year, I had to take a concussion test. I was doing fine until the very last part of the test where I had to repeat a series of letters. So the trainer tells me them and asks me to repeat all of them but I'm not paying any attention because there was a group of football guys that were walking by outside. I was a little distracted. Needless to say I couldn't repeat the letters and made a horrible first impression on the trainer. She and everyone else on the team got a good laugh out of that.

                              Re: Cornell Big Red 2012-2013

Well, the opening series against BU is in the books. I think as a Cornell fan there are some real positives you can take away from this weekend, and some things that the team will need to work on.

I like Cornell's freshman class. Both Murray and Richardson looked more poised and comfortable on defense than I was expecting, considering their college debut was against a very solid BU team with a number of very skilled offensive weapons. I can't wait to see Poudrier play, and I'm hoping that will be very soon.

The freshman forwards also look like they'll contribute nicely. Both Zorn and Woods got goals. Woods' shot in particular was a thing of beauty. The freshmen forwards should be that much more dangerous as they continue to gain more confidence. There were some freshman mistakes in both the offensive and defensive zones that will need to be eliminated, but that is to be expected.

I thought both games were closer than either score indicates. I thought Cornell looked stronger at the start of Saturday's game compared to Friday but kind of fell apart once BU took the 3-1 lead.
