RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Do you really think "pay cuts" from college to pro started with NIL. In a more current day catching up with interview with NFL hall of famer Hugh McElhaney and his wife not all that long before his passing, they freely admitted to the pay cut they took from his senior year at the University of...

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Great if it actually does happen. If not could always resort to some sort of goofy gimacry to try and drum up some kind of general public interest in this program again. At least above and beyond what was probably an all time (over seven decades) worst per game average attendance of 2,181. It's...

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Hockeydb.com lists Paul Rakowski at 5'5". Could be the shortest RPI D man ever. Nominations for other goofy D man categories: D man with the shortest combined first and last names- Bo Dolan??? D man with the most vowels in both their first and last names- Bruno Salvalaggio??? Only a couple of...

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Grisdale indeed!!! Senior D man in my first full time year of attending RPI Hockey in 1965-1966. Fortunately, dad brought me to a couple of games toward the end of the previous season when I actually got to see Senior Jerry Knightly play. However, Grisdale was a pair with another guy that...

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Golden rule #1 for me with little to nothing being second. Always start with guys who have rings. Like Friday, Hammond, Dark, Robinson, Langevin. However good others may have been, like UNH, they have no hardware. Though it was a different game (no checking in the offensive zone and icing had...

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Not correct. Totally excusable and completely understandable. A decade or so ago we had the gold standard of sports information (KB & PL) doing this stuff. Anybody trying to duplicate those levels my as well be swimming up from the bottom of a river or lake only to find a foot thick layer of ice...

Hobart Statesmen Hockey 2024-2025 Reigning D3 Back to Back Champions

Kidding??? Serious D1 looks!!! Come to Troy and they are both freaking serious upgrades to what we have left for returning players. After graduations, expired eligibility and guys bolting to the portal (many of the decent players) there are but nine returners to start 2025-2026. Oh, and bring...

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Operative words TOOLS HE NEEDS!!! A little research showed that the needed new refrigeration system ranges anywhere from 1 to 4 million, depending on the quality of ice desired (public skating vs. higher levels of hockey). I doubt the lower half of those figures will suffice for college hockey...

Quite an accomplishment. An assignment like that is not a result of some popularity contest. To get it you just have to flat out be good!!!

Having known a couple of those diminutive dynamos myself, one thing quickly becomes obvious. By their first day of kindergarten they probably already figured out they will never reach anything. So, when they really get mad, they haul off and kick shins!!!

Hobart Statesmen Hockey 2024-2025 Reigning D3 Back to Back Champions

Don't think this is over analyzing, but, of more immediate concern. Supposedly there is going to be a rematch of the National Championship game at the Cooler just months from now. Just how in the hell is a tiny arena going to handle people from a huge fan base that will travel in numbers no more...

Hobart Statesmen Hockey 2024-2025 Reigning D3 Back to Back Champions

If you liked that, the announcer on the NCAA webcast said the two programs booked a home and home for 2025-2026!!!

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

The guy who does the future schedules spreadsheet has already started it for 2025-2026. Besides the obvious Mayor's Cup, we have Providence at home and a pair at Minnesota State. Ouch!!! Would have been great news 40 years ago. Not so much these days!!!

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

You are absolutely correct about the TV money which I did not even mention. You are probably also right about if that kind of money was involved, even Shirley would have found a way to get the games played. Didn't mention that either. Supposedly and according to legend (who knows for sure)...

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

The NCAA did not cancel 2020-2021. Only Shirley and seven other fools did. Most have yet to recover. Unfortunately, Dave was one of those that was unable to fix that. The NCAA did not mandate empty buildings for 2021-2022. Only Shirley did. No one else had to fix that.

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Excellent summary except for the following. "There is no question that Dr. Jackson had to shut down varsity sports at the beginning of the Pandemic." Today, there are plenty of questions. In fact, people were given preemptive pardons because of them. One very obvious question is why do the...

Duh!! "I'm sure some of his players would come with him."??? Possibly, if the Admissions Department here is now run like the Athletic Department was under a potted plant figurehead Athletic Department emeritus. Can't even guess how many times over the course of decades I have heard AIC (only 90...

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

You left out one other reason (probably the most important one) for the job not being all that desirable. It was quite noticeable to those who see these guys in person a lot while they work here. Of the last half dozen or so RPI Hockey coaches, approximately half visibly aged terribly and...

RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

There is no one still around who can tell it first hand. I did not show up myself until Ned Harkness was in year two at Cornell. Most of what I MAY know was handed down by older fans who lived through it. So, 100% accuracy cannot be guaranteed except to say that administrative genocide #1 was a...
