The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
You're making my point, JB ... kudos to Souza for running a clean program with good kids, yes, but more is expected. Both of us could run a "clean program with good kids" too, but we'd probably both be even worse at coaching/driving performance in Men's Ice Hockey than he is. D-1 HC's salaries...
It's not an either/or proposition though, is it? Coach Umile consistently recruited good people AND managed to win a lot of games too.
Look at the awards that get given out, locally and nationally. There are some good citizenship awards, sure, but most apply to on-ice performance.
We all...
Best news of the offseason, including the portal pluses. Now hopefully the "search committee" won't mess this hire up like they messed up the last one ...
Assuming that such a meeting/discussion has even happened ... it's hard to envision the (apparently) outgoing lame duck AD would be throwing down forceful positions like that, when she likely hasn't done so before during her relatively brief and uneventful tenure, and she has little if any stake...
This was really a first-time blowout from Big Mike. He was just as mediocre in the portal in previous years as his coaching/developmental work. Which leads me to believe that something is absolutely different this time around. Maybe TDL has been making some offers these kids simply cannot...
Portal Winners & Losers (so far)
Winners
(1) Mike "MS7" Souza - with his job on the line, and with the vultures (like myself) circling, MS7 has clearly emerged from the portal with some quality additions, and looks to have shed some underperforming dead weight from the bottom of the roster in...
Right now, MS7 can only care about next season. Simpson looks like someone he couldn't pass up. Grout likely ends up as collateral damage. C'est la vie.
In the aftermath of the last 48 hours, one must realistically ask if TDL's donations to UNH Hockey have now extended beyond getting his...
Palmer's rotating drum stage was definitely a first, from a band that took pride in pushing the boundaries of showmanship. Guys like Cozy Powell, Tommy Lee and others added their own twists to the concept, but CP was there first for sure. Shame he doesn't dig that out of mothballs too...
Quadrophonic sound on the BSS tour too, unfortunately wasted on a poor sonic venue like the old Gahden, its notoriously poor sound got the Centrum built.
Sadly, I was still a little too young to get to that gig, an older brother would definitely have come in handy. Did they do Emerson's...
Similar to the Euro model for the elite big clubs competing to get Champions League slots, barring a very few (Guardiola, formerly Ferguson and Klopp) those clubs on the edge of European qualification go through coaches like changing underwear or socks. Thinking Chelsea, Tottenham, even Real...
You're making a pretty big assumption there Grouch ... not sure I'd bet the house on MS7 being in the office today ... I mean, what's the big hurry?!?
BTW gotta give props to "Emily the Flunky" who seems to have nailed this in advance, greatly enhancing her credibility, despite some doubters. (y)
Carl clearly stayed sober, saved his money, stayed fit, and his continuous touring with his new guys over the last few years into his mid-'70's has allowed them to rebuild the ELP worldwide fanbase to some degree. At their peak, despite the headwinds from the music press, ELP was one of the...
While we wait for the portal to open, and debate rages on about whose golf club is best ... here's a link for a show last Thursday night in Vegas at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. Guessing the 2nd game of the semis probably kept our college hockey diehards away, but the greatest drummer of...
Hellsten has been without question the best product of the portal at UNH to date, and even he was a short-lived but glorious blip on the screen. Chauvette was probably coming here anyway from the sounds of it, so I'm not sure MS7 gets a ton of credit for that one. Outside of the goalies, I...
Clearly, as a lifelong resident of Orono, she found the lure of bright lights and big city nights of Titletown too tempting to resist.
Actually ... wally can correct me on this if needed, but doing some AI digging (proceed with caution) apparently, she intended to go to Boise State first, but a...
Now there's an issue that's flown under the radar for some time ... injury? Academics?? Coach's doghouse???
Lack of reporting on stuff like this - arguably minor as it is - is what's been lost with the demise of traditional old school "beat reporters" ...
Objectively, it's hard to believe 7-8 players will actually pull the trigger on entering the portal ... not questioning the sourcing here, but there's a difference between a player stating dissatisfaction with the program (kind of a college hockey "beer muscles" exercise), and then actually...
