The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.

So, after last night's results and if Dartmouth loses in the ECAC tourney, the ECAC will have 4 teams in the NCAAs and HE might only have one or two. SOS for Q-39, Cornell 41, Dartmouth 55. If UMASS loses today with a SOS of 29, 21 wins AND finishing 2nd in HE, they will miss the NCAAs...
While I usually like objective measures, I also look at fairness and common sense when deciding whether it is a good measure. Right now the NPI is questionable. The reason it makes me question the usefulness is that it is possible that Hockey East only gets one team in the NCAAs, while ECAC has...
Well, well, well....so you say there is still a chance! Not sure what to make of last night's games. BC, BU and UCONN decide to self-destruct while UMASS continues its hot streak. Does this mean that HE is loaded with lots of good teams or just mediocre ones (except for Providence). UMASS needs...
While no system is perfect, the system used needs to be seen as fair and understandable. A win away and OT win at home against a higher ranked opponent should move the needle a bit. In the wins against UCONN, no movement. Yesterday UMASS beats BC at home and they jump two spots. Strange.
I think this is a good article with some food for thought. I thought a win at UCONN and a OT win in Amherst would have really helped UMASS' NPI since UCONN was rated much higher. Instead nothing really changed. It seems like wins don't move a team so much but a loss is devastating...
I've always hated the strobe effect after goals and home runs. I'm glad the HE did something about it. If it had gone the other way against UMASS, I would have been pissed as well.
Many schools will be facing this dilemma.
Northeast schools in particular as well as schools that have mediocre football programs. Even lower tier schools in the Big 10 and SEC are having attendance problems.
Students and alumni really only want to go to games that their school wins...
What good are a bunch of 6'5" hockey players who cannot put the puck in the net? Losing 1-0 to UNH should be an embarrassment to these player. Hrabel cannot pitch a shutout every night! Now they must win their last five games to have any shot at the NCAAs. Carvey needs to recruit some goal scorers.
Didn't play, went from 19 to 21 on NPI. While recruiting looks good for next year, I am still holding out a faint hope of making the tournament for this year. Perhaps Hrabel can start practicing standing on his head....UMASS needs him to show up big.
2 out of 3 versus UML, good but not what they needed if they want to get in the playoffs. #19 NPI. 3 games against UNH, 2 vs UCONN and 1 vs BS. UMASS needs to go at least 4-2 or maybe 5-1 to have any chance.
Sweep of Vermont made the weekend pleasurable. A couple of shutouts bodes well for the Minutemen. Up to 21 on the NPI now. The schedule has gotten much easier and the next five games could really help the NPI if they could win them all. Not so absurd to think that now compared to the beginning...
No idea what to make of this season. Every week the unexpected happens (usually bad) then they win a game. Irving with shutouts...who knew? Hope they can pull it together for the rest of the season...otherwise I'm onto lacrosse.
The BC weekend was a disaster. Good thing UMASS is known for their defense. It seems that UMASS has no shot against team that have a bunch of scorers. 11-3 doesn't do it.
I wish Carvel could recruit some notable scorers as well. No matter how good your defense is, scoring zero goals is not...
Split with Omaha, Cornell and now Maine. Will it be a .500 season? What happened to Hrabel? Jackson with a shutout! Changes in goal afoot in Amherst? Jencko is the real deal so far. BC up next. Would love to see a sweep there!!!
Seems like a repeat of last year. The loss to Northeastern and underwhelming win over Bentley. A split against Omaha. Stumbling along until everyone finds their place on the ice. Cornell is always a challenge. A good showing here might indicate UMASS is headed in the right direction. I didn't...
