Nice article on the 2024-25 Women Raiders: https://news.colgate.edu/magazine/2025/05/21/iron-sharpens-iron-womens-hockey/
... and Congrats to Kaltounková being the number one draftee and Murphy being the first goalie selected in the 2025 PWHL draft.
With Cornell's success in the ECAC Tournament and so far in the NCAA Regional, 'Gate's loss to the Big Red in the ECAC quarterfinals stings (a little) less. Good luck to Cornell and Quinnipiac in the NCAA tournament.
Hockey East and ECAC go 3-0 against the Big Ten in Thursday's games, outscoring them 10-1 in the 3rd period. The perseverance shown by underdogs Cornell, UMass (and Minnesota State) to come back in the third periods was truly enjoyable to watch as a fan of good hockey.
The 'Gate team was real fun to watch this year. Even when down by a goal or more, I never felt like they didn't have a chance to come back – and many times they did. So proud of the women skaters.
Like for other 'Gate fans, it was a disappointing weekend for me. Cornell earned the wins.
I come away from the season impressed with the performance of the 'Gate skaters and coaches. Given the number of losses to the transfer portal, I had low expectations. The season was frustrating at times...
Thanks for running the thread.
Well, the group think (contest AVG) didn't correctly predict the season records, but it got the Lake Placid participants correctly.
With Clarkson beating Q in overtime, the Union-Colgate game tomorrow will definitely be for third / fourth place. Since Union beat Colgate in a shootout, I believe the winner of tomorrow's game (if the win is in regulation or overtime) gets third. I don't know what the next tie breaker is if...
Whew!! With their overtime win over RPI the 'Gate gain a bye next week, as they hold the tiebreaker against Dartmouth, who won tonight against Brown. With Union beating Cornell, Dartmouth has assured itself fifth seeding, Cornell the sixth (Dartmouth holds the tiebreaker with the Big Red).
It is important for the Raiders to win on Friday. If Colgate (and also true for Union) loses on Friday, they couldl be playing for a bye in their early start (4 pm) game Saturday. Not a position I'd want the team to be in.
Friday, February 28:
Cornell at Union
Colgate at RPI
Dartmouth at Brown
Harvard at Yale
Princeton at St. Lawrence
Quinnipiac at Clarkson
Saturday, March 1:
Colgate at Union
Cornell at RPI
Harvard at Brown
Dartmouth at Yale
Quinnipiac at St. Lawrence
Princeton at Clarkson
Goals: 64
The only home team to get more than three points this past weekend was Quinnipiac. They and Clarkson were the only teams to get more than three points. So the point differential for the four competifor teams (Colgate, Union, Cornell and Dartmouth) for the third and fourth spots did not change.
Only one weekend left, 'Gate can finish anywhere from second to sixth! The Raiders need a win to clinch a top four spot and a bye. But it won't be easy as RPI often plays us tough in their barn. If we lose to the Engineers Friday, then Saturday's game against Union could well be for the bye...
