    Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2026-27

Thought this belonged in a UW thread, not PWHL at this point. Note that you could ask three other people this question, they could each list three different players, you'd wind up with a dozen Badgers, and maybe nobody is wrong. A lot of talent has passed through Madison. These are all people...

    2026 PWHL Draft

Watts single handedly allowed you to set a forum record for bad puns, so I'd guess she has a soft spot in your memories. Thank you both for the thoughts. It's only that there have been so many over the years that I wouldn't place either on the first team of all-time Badger nemeses.

The people in the comments section of that Sophie J. link seem rather ornery; maybe they are warming up to come here. ;)

    2026 PWHL Draft

Serious question for Badger fans: how would you compare Simms and Watts? From a distance, I thought of both as being elite offensive producers, top-level as finishers, but not necessarily having the all-around games of people like Decker and Duggan and able to make teammates better to the same...

    2026 PWHL Draft

The Frost have seemed to put a premium on players from the area, whether or not they played for the Gophers. Given that the money at best isn't life-changing, and on the low end is barely enough to survive, playing for a team is more attractive if you have ties to the area. Peschel is a hometown...

    2026 PWHL Draft

Thanks for taking time to share your thoughts. Minnesota would take Peschel if she was available, but I doubt that she will be. I think both she and Janecke have games that will blossom in the pros.

    2025-26 PWHL season

Understood. I watched the Gophers reckon with them for six periods one night. I think the way he ran his program in Grand Forks is similar to Muzzy in many way. He's a good coach, no question. Personally, I don't have any complaints with the staff that U of M wound up with this time. History can...

    2025-26 PWHL season

Sitting back to see who gets fired would be an odd way to fill an opening. His career record as a D-I coach is above .500, but not by enough to make him the target for most programs.

Ohio State Women's Hockey 2026-27: "The future ARE the Buckeyes ... you can write that down."

Agreed. I watched her for only 4 games. She got injured midway through one, was worn down by the fourth, but before that, she was pretty darn good. Maybe she's streaky and doesn't get back to that level much of the time. I don't watch her enough to know. One of the biggest problems in the St...

Ohio State Women's Hockey 2026-27: "The future ARE the Buckeyes ... you can write that down."

I replied to Timothy, you replied to me, and here we are. I will stop if a tOSU fans so requests. Not saying she's a "concern". She's one of the the team's strengths. The best goalies can win games that their team has no business winning. Very seldom are Wisconsin games in that category, but...

    2026 Coaching Changes

They were good enough to bounce the Badgers from their first NCAA trip.

Ohio State Women's Hockey 2026-27: "The future ARE the Buckeyes ... you can write that down."

Her situation is similar to that of Rigsby, in that she played behind a core of foundational players her first couple of years. After that, there were new players being asked to carry the heavy load. This version of UW is likely more talented than that era. However, it is possible that deficits...

    2026 Coaching Changes

My guess would be that three straight losing seasons, including just six wins in his final year, convinced the decision makers that the glory years of his tenure had come and gone. I remember Dartmouth being elite while Oberting's recruits were still around, but the team drifted downward after...

Minnesota Women's Hockey 2026-27: Here Comes The Boom

I don't agree with the sentiment that a new head coach "owns" the recruits that came in while they were an assistant. For example, Shannon Miller wasn't inclined to give much in the way of scholarships to Minnesota HS players early in her tenure. By the end of her regime, there weren't that many...

    2025-26 PWHL season

Are there other Nurses that have checked all of those boxes on their resumes? The final one is harder with only three chances, but we could include whatever passed for a pro league at the time. I'm guessing that there are people from Madtown who have, but it's too depressing to think about for...

Ohio State Women's Hockey 2026-27: "The future ARE the Buckeyes ... you can write that down."

That is likely one of the big questions for UW; does McNaughton's play make a jump forward without having the huge distraction of an Olympic year?

Minnesota Women's Hockey 2026-27: Here Comes The Boom

Thanks for starting a new thread! IMO, the biggest indicator of the state of the program is that your sentence that I quoted is buried in the middle of a paragraph and it isn't misplaced. The question isn't how do we survive w/o a coach who was there for two decades, it's how do we get a team...

    Transfer Portal 2026

Only a small percentage of NCAA football players will wind up playing in the NFL (32 rosters, each much smaller than the triple-digit rosters at an Alabama or tOSU). There are far more players in college who will need to use their degree than will find themselves playing on Sundays.
