The Gophers need to bank wins, because Wisconsin's trip to Minneapolis will be during the Olympics. Aside from any injury absences, Minnesota will probably be missing five players (Murphy; Primerano; Laitinen; Bouveng; Plosova).

Through eleven games, Murphy has been much improved. The cheap shots aren't gone, but they've been reduced by at least half. The diving and whining has been almost entirely excised. After a particularly egregious non-call up in St Cloud, she understood that she's capable of making her opinion...

I don't know, but you have no one to blame but yourself, leaving after two periods.

Penn State is a bigger worry for them.

    Minnesota Women's Hockey 2025-26

This is the best Gopher team in years. At least since Heise graduated, and maybe going back farther than that. Carly Humphrey is blossoming with all of the ice time from Primerano's absences. She isn't panicking when pressured. She's cut way back on bad passes. She was mostly invisible...

    WCHA 2025-26

The first two periods were the best hockey game I've seen in years. The third period was the best Gopher game I've seen in years. They stepped on the Badgers' throats and never let up. It has been a very long time since I've watched Wisconsin become unglued like that.

Murphy was a lot more sinned against than sinning tonight.

1-1 early in the third. Brooke Disher picked up another major for hitting Ilsa Lindaman in the head at the end of the second, and Jenna Rausio should have gotten a major for checking from behind two minutes into the third.

As Gascon left she ice, she was holding her left arm in a way that suggested a shoulder injury.

Sarah Paul is out indefinitely after surgery necessitated by a cross-check from Kassidy Carmichael, so I'd be careful you don't fall off that high horse.

    Minnesota Women's Hockey 2025-26

Abbey Murphy is more fun to watch this year. She's traded in a portion of her chippiness and whining in favor of making some spectacularly dumb passes. I consider this to be a positive development. I don't want to make too much of it yet, because I said the same thing at this point of the season...

It couldn't have been that bad given that she played on Sunday.

This simply is not true. After Kreisz is down, Baxter delivers a clear cross check. That's what Primerano was responding to. Also, no one else seemed to catch this, but when Kreisz went down late in the second period, it was because she got speared.

Boston College Women's Hockey '25-'26: It's The Hope That Kills You

She played nowhere close to 100 games for Minnesota. Try 56, and 31 of those were when she was a freshman fourth line forward. Frost notoriously doesn't give the fourth line much ice time (though the fourth line is playing a lot this year). After that, she was hurt but dressed for a lot of those...

Boston College Women's Hockey '25-'26: It's The Hope That Kills You

I'm going to defend BC, at least a little. The Thursday game was an abomination. They looked like the flight from Logan got delayed and they had to round up twenty young women, some of whom had never worn skates, just to have a roster. Friday was different. The Eagles looked much better. They...

Boston College Women's Hockey '25-'26: It's The Hope That Kills You

Emma Conner hardly played for Minnesota for four years because she couldn't stay healthy. On the disappointingly rare occasions she could dress, she was really good. She just had a season ending injury each of the last three years. I hope she can play a complete season for BC.

    Minnesota Gophers 2024-25

There's a funny thing about leads. In order for it to be possible to blow one, you had to build it first. For some reason, we have collectively decided that it's better to lose by one goal if you never had a lead than it is if you did. I have never heard a good argument for why that is. It...

    Minnesota Gophers 2024-25

If you want to argue that there weren't enough teams that earned a spot to fill out the bracket, I'd be sympathetic. They probably shouldn't have played that season at all, and fewer chances to spread disease would have been fine. But that's not what the NCAA did. They chose UMD instead of...

    Minnesota Gophers 2024-25

I never said that any particular goal was being snakebit. I never even implied it. But there were a bunch of chances where the Badgers got lucky that Minnesota didn't score. Given the number of close chances the Gophers had over the entire sixty minutes, rather than focusing only on one...
