The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
Thanks for sharing, Dan! Seems like a solid get. Averaging over a point per game in the competitive QMJHL (similar to Tournas) is certainly promising to see. The recent draft pedigree is also promising. He’s only 19 this year (a year younger than Tournas) so maybe one more year in Jrs? But to be...
I was wondering if anyone has heard any rumors where the last few UNH guys still in the portal may end up? On Gopher puck I’m still seeing Walsh, C. MacPherson, Hahn, Deturris, and Coombs still unclaimed.
Hope they all find new teams come this fall - even if it means back to Juniors, DIII, etc.
I really hope it isn’t an internal hire. I agree with Snively it needs to be someone outside UNH. New ideas, creativity, and being able to think quickly on one’s feet are needed, especially in this fast changing landscape of college sports.
I also agree I hope they are given freedom to...
You mentioned the growth of surrounding communities - and I just wanted to mention the continued growth of the Pease hub for biotech as I believe Lonza is trying to expand their manufacturing campus/footprint in that area. While I don’t think they will ever get within sniffing distance of the...
Any idea as to when UNH will release their schedule for next season? I’ve been seeing others schedules slowly percolating out over the past few weeks. I can’t remember the usual timing when UNH typically releases their schedule.
We know of MSU in late October, and Merrimack to likely open...
It ultimately comes down to coaching. Some of the other teams on these lists have coaches that have shown an ability to consistently win year in and year out unlike our own MS7.
Look at the Mets in MLB right now. Second highest payroll and yet dead last in the league right now. Compared with...
Not sure I can see the logic with putting Maine as the 4th best with regard to the portal…
They lost two of their best prospective returning players (Marques and Poirier) of which one went to an in-division rival.
Yes, they did appear to pick up a decent goalie, and one of the better point...
Noticed Skrastins also just entered the portal - I imagine he is another one who is banking on the 5 in 5 rule getting passed this summer.
I wonder how many others will enter before the portal closes who may squeak in one more year of college hockey depending on the ruling.
Has anyone heard...
I certainly agree. No one’s seat is hotter than MS7 this coming season. He doesn’t want to suffer the same fate as Herrion who was dismissed after his first season under Rich. I wonder if MS7 foresaw this happening, and further pushed him to go “all in” on the portal to give him the best chance...
So theres a few days left on the portal, and as expected it seems things have quieted down on that front after the “mad dash” of the first 48 hrs.
Even still, if Souza wanted to fill maybe 1 more roster spot, there appears to be a few interesting names remaining on the list.
Nolan Seed, a Dman...
While I agree in thinking his transfer likely came after the two portal goalies, I don’t think he ever signed financials with UNH and thus it was likely only a verbal commitment to attend UNH this fall. Im not as familiar with all the ins and outs of recruitment, but Doesnt he have all the power...
I would have thought UNH initially wanted him to join this year, as that is what Heisenberg initially had. Once the two goalies came from the portal, Heisenberg changed it to 2027, and then crossed him off when he switched to BC.
I alluded to this a few days ago, and another poster said that...
Saying BC has “much better academics” than UNH is a bit of a broad sweeping statement in my opinion. UNH has very strong programs in Earth/Marine Science, and in general many of the physical sciences that I would say may outcompete BC.
In business/humanities? Yes I would certainly give the edge...
At the same time, it appears others have seen the major gains UNH has made thus far in the portal. MM tweeted UNH is tied with NoDak at 6th with +72.1 for biggest winners in the portal (according to CHIP score). We are up there with some pretty big names. Our score is the highest of any HE...
Ouch… that one stings. Henriquez must have really taken offense to not joining UNH this fall and the two goalie pickups in the portal. Souza really is going all in this year and is putting his bet on Simpson (with 1 year eligibility left) and Kendrick. If things crash and burn with those two...
Seems like a near lock that Tournas will get drafted this year. Henriquez I assume will likely be a fringe/near miss draft pick, as isn’t there roughly 25ish goalies taken each year? Perhaps if one team really likes him he could go in the 6th-7th round.
The draft will be the next thing to look...
I was thinking Hahn was gonna be the DIII guy. Perhaps there will be multiple though. I thought someone mentioned he was initially planning on going DIII before Souza convinced him to join UNH.
I agree in going back to the portal for impact only guys. Taking a quick look it appears Kasper...
I wonder if this means Souza looks to get one more?
Or perhaps the situation arose where Souza picked up more guys than initially anticipated, and he had a tough conversation with Walsh that he likely wasnt going to get much playing time, or any at all.
I wish him all the best. He is a bigger...
That’s fair - perhaps the lay down did not come from her, or at all. I’m just trying to make sense of why Souza seems to be going much harder at the portal this year compared to his previous contract year. Perhaps he has more resources this time (NIL $$$ that didn’t exist last time). He may also...
